Born as a normal child, Nguyen An Nhu was permanently blinded by an accident at the age of 11 months. After undergoing more than 20 major and minor surgeries, the 10X girl overcame both physical and mental pain to become a student at the Vietnam National Academy of Music.

Passion for musical instruments

Not only conquering the zither, piano, violin and bamboo flute, An Nhu is also the youngest athlete of the Visually Impaired Dance Club with many impressive achievements.

An Nhu appeared impressively with a bamboo flute and the familiar melody of the song Despacito.

If this 10X girl did not introduce herself, many people would not know that she is a blind girl. An Nhu shared that although she cannot see everything, her life is always interesting and full of joy. She has a passion for musical instruments.

"Music is not only a friend and light, but also helps my life be filled with color and love. I want to spread that to everyone," An Nhu said.

An Nhu's innocence, playfulness and a bit of mischief made the conversation very open, engaging and somewhat interesting when she was willing to sing L'italiano in Italian when participating in the program's challenge. An Nhu also made an impressive appearance with a bamboo flute and the familiar melody of the song Despacito .

When asked about the incident that made An Nhu become blind, she answered very optimistically: "I think the incident happened, whether blind or not, one should live a life worth living." The photos that Nhu Thi Tuyet Anh, Nhu's mother, brought helped the audience visualize more clearly the incident that happened to the family.

Like many other children, since birth, An Nhu was beautiful and adorable, growing up in the loving and caring arms of her mother. An unexpected accident happened on the first day An Nhu went to kindergarten, the fall caused her to suffer a traumatic brain injury. The 11-month-old girl at that time had to undergo major brain surgery, valve placement and more than 20 treatments.

"That difficult period, everything had to stop, my mood at that time was really indescribable. It was like an airplane flying into the sea. I took my child to all the hospitals, from Western medicine to Eastern medicine, to the South, to the Central region, to the North. Wherever they told me they could cure my child's illness, I went. Complications from the surgeries left my child blind and with hyperactive autism.

After seeking treatment everywhere, my child knocked and smashed everything in the house. When the doctors advised that my child was sensitive to sound, I began to find ways to expose him to music . Musical instruments and melodies were effective in helping him calm down. The family asked for him to take piano lessons, even though each lesson only lasted 5-10 minutes. At that time, Nhu was 3 years old...", Ms. Tuyet Anh recalled.

An impressive journey to conquer music

An Nhu's process of learning to play the piano was a feat. At that time, Nhu's mother studied with her daughter and memorized the lessons to teach her every night. Accompanying her daughter during the years in the hospital, taking her to treatment and then to school, Ms. Tuyet Anh not only became a doctor and a teacher but also became her daughter's close friend.

An Nhu can play many musical instruments such as piano, violin, bamboo flute, zither...

From the piano, the blind girl gradually developed a special love for musical instruments. When she entered Nguyen Dinh Chieu Secondary School ( Hanoi ), she heard the music of her seniors participating in the school orchestra. An Nhu persevered in practicing and determined to enter the music conservatory to nurture her special love for the zither, then the bamboo flute and violin.

With each musical instrument, the blind girl shared a special reason why she wanted to conquer it: "Among the musical instruments, I like the zither the most because its sound is melodious and melodious. Every time I play music, I often imagine many colors. I don't know how to define colors, but when I play the instrument, I imagine streams of water flowing, clouds floating, people's smiles... What I like most is that listening to each person playing the instrument, I can somewhat guess their personality and emotions."

Because she cannot read music, An Nhu's way of learning is different. She learns by listening to her teacher play the piano and then memorizing the notes by listening to them over and over again. That helps her recognize each teacher's style.

The zither is the musical instrument that An Nhu likes to play the most.

The challenge of performing the song Ben tren thang lau, a hit song that is loved by many young Vietnamese people, using the zither, bamboo flute, violin and piano will help the audience see and hear An Nhu's ability to play many musical instruments.

When asked about her future dreams, An Nhu hopes to focus on completing her studies at the Vietnam National Academy of Music, playing the musical instruments she is pursuing well, and further becoming a music teacher, passing on her musical appreciation skills to those in unfortunate circumstances like her.
