Hue is bustling with excitement as it welcomes the grand celebration of Buddha's Birthday, Buddhist calendar 2570 - Gregorian calendar 2026.

These days, a large number of people and Buddhist monks and nuns in the ancient capital of Hue are enthusiastically participating in activities to welcome the great Buddha's Birthday celebration, Buddhist calendar 2570.

This year, the Buddha's Birthday celebration, organized by the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Association of Hue City, will take place from May 17th to June 7th (corresponding to the 1st to 22nd day of the 4th lunar month) with many events such as: launching and lighting seven lotus flowers on the Perfume River; a vegetarian food festival on Nguyen Dinh Chieu pedestrian street; performing the ritual of bathing the Buddha and a traditional Buddha procession praying for national peace and prosperity, and world peace; a flower float parade, and releasing lanterns... In addition, the program will also include a Lantern Festival on the evening of June 7th at Nghinh Luong Pavilion, promising to create a dazzling scene along the Perfume River.

National flags and Buddhist flags are densely displayed along the main roads in Hue City.

The highlight of the Buddha's Birthday celebration in Hue in the year 2570 of the Buddhist calendar was the two giant flags – the national flag and the Buddhist flag – displayed on the banks of the Perfume River. Both flags were of similar size, approximately 100 square meters each , and were placed side-by-side on a long stretch of grass near the Hue National School monument. The Buddhist flag, in particular, was formed from 6,590 smaller flags.

Many Buddhists and tourists choose to take photos under the two giant flags on the banks of the romantic Perfume River.

"Every Buddha's Birthday season in Hue is adorned with flags and flowers, but this year the heritage site's atmosphere welcoming the Buddha's Birthday is even more special. The image of two large national flags and Buddhist flags along the Perfume River not only makes the city more vibrant but also evokes a feeling of profound sacredness and nobility," shared Cao Thi My Hang (21 years old, from Da Nang City, currently studying in Hue City).

On the Perfume River, in front of Nghinh Luong Dinh wharf, many tourists and Buddhists are captivated by the sight of seven giant lotus flowers rising from the blue water, symbolizing the seven steps of the Buddha upon his birth.

At many ancient temples in Hue, such as Quoc Tu Dieu De, To Dinh Tu Dam, Thien Mu..., Buddhist monks and nuns are rushing to complete the final preparations for the main ceremony on the 15th day of the fourth lunar month (May 31st).

The Buddha's birthday celebration platform is set up inside most of the large temples in Hue City.

According to the people of Hue City, with the meaning of praying for "national prosperity and peace, world peace, the eternal existence of Buddhism, and the well-being of all sentient beings," the Buddha's Birthday celebration is always a major traditional event, deeply ingrained in the local consciousness and cultural life.

On May 29th, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Van Thang, along with a delegation from the Central Government, visited and extended congratulations to the dignitaries and the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Association in Hue City on the occasion of the Buddha's Birthday celebration, Buddhist calendar 2570.

The Deputy Prime Minister respectfully acknowledged the positive contributions of the Vietnam Buddhist Association in social welfare work, caring for the people's lives, participating in poverty reduction, humanitarian relief, and supporting disadvantaged families.
