Elementary school teacher "accidentally" hit student's cheek

(Dan Tri) - A teacher working at the International Primary School in Dak Lak used a ruler to hit a third grader on the cheek, causing a bruise. The school has disciplined her and said that she will be fired if she does not change.

On the afternoon of December 17, Ms. Ho Thi Tinh, Principal of the International Primary School, Buon Ma Thuot City, confirmed to Dan Tri reporter that the school's Disciplinary Council had met and decided to discipline teacher NMT (26 years old), after she beat a third grade student.

According to Ms. Tinh, although the incident was just discovered, the school quickly applied strict disciplinary measures against this teacher.

"Whether intentional or not, insulting the honor and body of students will be strictly handled. Therefore, the school decided to discipline teacher T. by cutting all emulation in the 2024-2025 school year and not considering a salary increase in the next term.

At the same time, teacher T. will have one month to challenge herself. If she does not change, the school will force her to quit her job," Ms. Tinh affirmed.

The Principal of the International Primary School also emphasized that the school always strictly enforces that staff and teachers must not physically abuse students and do not tolerate any violations.

"The teacher explained that while teaching, she used a flexible ruler and accidentally caused the incident. She also tried to contact the parents to apologize. However, her behavior has been handled and the school will apologize to the parents for this unfortunate incident," Ms. Tinh added.

Teacher T. said the incident happened on December 16 when she used a flexible ruler to punish a student’s hand, but because the student was bending down, the ruler hit his cheek. She hopes parents will sympathize and share so they have a chance to correct their mistakes.

Immediately after the incident, the student's parents were upset, took a picture of their child's bruised cheek, sent it to the class's zalo group and asked the parents' association to give their opinion and report to the school's board of directors.
