Mai Son commune was established on the basis of merging Hat Lot town, Hat Lot commune and Co Noi commune, with a large population of more than 52,000 people, spread over an area of 164 km², with many typical landscapes of the Na San plateau. Clearly defining the merger is not only a change in boundaries but also an opportunity to raise the level of development and improve the quality of service to the people. The challenge is great, but there are also many advantages because the newly established commune has gathered many strengths, especially in mobilizing investment resources to build, upgrade and develop service - commercial infrastructure according to the criteria of a type IV urban area.
Mr. Nguyen Anh Thu, Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said: The central area develops trade and services, forming supermarkets, wholesale markets, business locations, and transportation services; in the North and South, focusing on developing high-tech agricultural commodities. At the same time, the commune encourages the development of small-scale handicrafts, mechanics, agricultural processing, and attracts businesses to invest in new technologies.
With the potential and advantages of fruit tree development, Mai Son commune is focusing on reorganizing the planning of the area, encouraging people to apply high technology, linking to establish cooperatives specializing in fruit trees, such as mango, longan, custard apple, dragon fruit, strawberry... to form a sustainable production, processing and consumption chain. Continuing to build safe and organic agricultural production models, associated with eco -tourism and experience. Up to now, the commune has nearly 5,000 hectares of fruit trees; of which 2 custard apple and mango production areas are recognized for applying high technology, with a total area of 694.5 hectares; 48 cooperatives are operating effectively in the fields of cultivation, supplying agricultural materials and consuming agricultural products for people.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Tu, Director of Me Lech Cooperative, shared: The Cooperative has 26 members growing custard apples. The Cooperative's "Creamy Custard Apple" product meets VietGAP standards and is recognized as an OCOP product. Every year, the Cooperative supplies the market with nearly 200 tons of fruit, with a total revenue of over 6.5 billion VND. The Cooperative has 200 hectares of custard apples, Thai custard apples and Taiwanese custard apples. To reduce the pressure on the consumption of custard apples in the main season, the Cooperative has instructed its members to apply pruning techniques and spread the harvest from July to Tet. The Cooperative's custard apple products have created prestige, expanded the consumption market and increased income for members.
Located in the center with the advantage of National Highway 6 passing through, along with provincial and regional traffic routes connecting localities, it has many advantages in developing trade - services, diversifying types of production and business. The whole commune has over 1,000 stores, business and service locations, such as: Supermarkets, hotels, restaurants, food production and trading establishments, purchasing and processing agricultural products, transportation business, car and motorbike repair... After the merger, the political system of the commune has operated smoothly, creating favorable conditions in terms of administrative procedures and premises for organizations and individuals to invest in developing trade - services, meeting the needs of the people.
The merger of administrative units has helped Mai Son commune effectively exploit economic space, promote internal strength and expand development space, connect regions, aiming to become a modern rural commune, a locality focusing on developing agriculture, trade - services, with the expectation of becoming an economic bright spot of the province.
