Large reserves
When mentioning Phong Dien, many people think of the vast inland and coastal white sand area with more than 31 thousand hectares stretching from the central area to the east of the town. According to Decision No. 1626/2023/QD-TTg, dated December 15, 2023 of the Prime Minister on approving the planning for exploration, exploitation, processing and use of minerals as construction materials in the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, Phong Dien has 20 locations with an area of more than 2,747 hectares of white sand for the construction materials industry, concentrated in the wards and communes: Dien Hoa (now Phong Phu), Phong Hien, Phong Hoa, Phong Binh, Phong Chuong... Up to now, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has licensed 5 mining units, including Frit Hue Joint Stock Company with an area of 25.6 hectares; Viet Phuong Investment Group Joint Stock Company with more than 40.6 hectares; Prime Thien Phuc Joint Stock Company 7.26ha; Khanh Hoa Minerals and Investment Joint Stock Company nearly 8.1ha (currently stopped mining); Vietnam Service and Investment Import-Export Joint Stock Company more than 57ha.
Since the day enterprises came to invest in the Phong Dien sand area, the poor rural areas by the river and the sea have gradually changed their appearance. Typically, the formation of Phong Dien Industrial Park and up to now it has expanded to more than 700 hectares, attracting more than 25 projects to go into production and business. The road system connecting trade, commercial services have also been invested in and developed... Along the sand areas that have been licensed for enterprises to manage and exploit, a wide chessboard connecting road has been formed, with electricity lighting all night long.
Formation of silicate industrial center
At the end of March, at Phong Dien Industrial Park, Creanza High-Tech Materials Joint Stock Company held a groundbreaking ceremony for a sand processing factory with a scale of 12.72 hectares, a total investment of VND 2,187 billion; a design capacity of about 72,000 tons of cristobalite; 1.6 million m² of quartz stone/year. According to the plan, this factory will come into operation in the first quarter of 2027 and contribute to promoting the production of deep-processed products from sand, using resources economically and exporting high-quality cristobalite and quartz stone products from Vietnam to markets in Europe, America, etc.; creating jobs for 300 - 400 local workers with stable income; at the same time, organizing training so that workers can access the world's leading modern and advanced deep sand processing technology.
On the same occasion, Dat Phuong Glass Joint Stock Company (Dat Phuong Group) also started construction of the Dat Phuong Super White Flower Glass Factory, with a total investment of VND 2,000 billion, expected to be completed in 2027. The project's goal is to produce super white flower glass for the construction industry and make glass for solar panels along with some post-glass processing products...
Mr. Dinh Gia Noi, General Director of Dat Phuong Glass Joint Stock Company, said that through surveying and assessing the potential of abundant and clean white sand reserves in Phong Dien, the company chose to invest in the factory with the expectation of becoming a leading enterprise in the field of deep processing of white sand and contributing significantly to the budget revenue...
With abundant reserves of white sand, along with a system of factories that have been and are producing and processing white sand, Phong Dien hopes to develop into an industrial center for deep processing from sand and form important supply chains, helping to increase the production value of the Silica industry not only in Hue City, but also in the region.
Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the City People's Committee, in a recent survey of production and business activities at enterprises in Phong Dien Industrial Park, said that the orientation for breakthrough development of the land at the northern gateway is based on two foundations: what is available and new potential. Regarding new potential for development, the town needs to focus on developing industries with potential advantages in raw materials and the ability to exploit them for production with high added value. In particular, it is necessary to focus on developing the silica processing industry at a high level to make an important contribution to the local and city economy.
