Difficulties in recruiting workers in businesses

Many manufacturing enterprises in the province are having difficulty recruiting workers, due to the shift from manufacturing to the trade and service sector; due to lack of diligence in working... The problem is to do better in career guidance, especially for manufacturing establishments that have to change technology.

In recent years, Lao Cai province has had many important steps in socio -economic development. Infrastructure systems have been invested, industrial parks and industrial clusters have been formed, creating favorable conditions for businesses to expand their production scale. On many central roads, it is easy to see signs "recruiting workers", "recruiting technical staff", "recruiting unskilled workers". This is a signal that production and business activities of enterprises are improving, the demand for labor is increasing. However, behind that colorful picture is a difficult reality. Many businesses in Lao Cai are facing difficulties in recruiting workers, especially unskilled workers and skilled workers.

Mr. Nguyen Van Doanh - Doanh Mui Company Limited, Luong Thinh Commune, shared: "Enterprises are facing many difficulties in terms of capital and market... When we overcome the shortage of labor, we are now having difficulty recruiting workers." This short statement clearly reflects the paradox: businesses have overcome capital obstacles, found outlets for their products, but the most important step - human resources - is "blocked".

Similarly, Mr. Do Vi Vuong - owner of Truong Phu enterprise, Yen Bai ward, could not help but worry: "The daily wage is 250,000 VND, the packaging sewing job is not hard, those who do not know will be trained and work right at the center, but they cannot recruit dozens of workers".

Thus, there is no shortage of jobs, although working conditions are favorable, salaries are not low compared to the general level, but a series of companies still have difficulty attracting workers. For a long time, we have only cared about the problem of solving employment, creating new jobs, while in reality life has changed... businesses are having difficulty recruiting workers.

Many businesses and production facilities are having difficulty recruiting workers.

To explain this situation, it is necessary to have a comprehensive view of the labor shift in society. First of all, young people of working age tend to choose jobs in the trade and service industry such as sales, shippers, office workers, technology drivers... These jobs do not require high skills, but create a "lighter" feeling compared to industrial production labor.

Secondly, the desire to experience and "get out of the bamboo village" makes many young workers choose to leave their hometown to work in large industrial parks in Bac Ninh, Bac Giang , Binh Duong, Dong Nai, etc. Although they have to face high living costs and expensive rent, in return they feel they have access to a dynamic environment and open promotion opportunities.

In recent years, the agricultural economy in many localities has developed strongly. Rural youth in Lao Cai with land, dams, planted forests, etc. have chosen to do household economy, aquaculture, farm development, community tourism, etc. Income from these models is quite stable, even higher than working as a worker, not to mention being close to family. That significantly reduces the additional labor source for businesses.

Mr. Do Quang Ngoc - Quang Huy Construction Company (Hanoi), the contractor for the anti-landslide project in Quy Mong commune, recounted: "At the end of last year, I went to a nearby market and saw some young men playing billiards. I invited them to work for the company with a salary of 500,000 VND/day, including lunch, for about 2 months... However, none of the young men responded."

Through the above story, it can be seen that the problem is not only about income, but also related to the psychology and lifestyle of today's youth: afraid of hardship, afraid of manual labor, like to gather and have fun. This is a warning signal for education and career orientation.

To solve the labor shortage, one of the fundamental solutions is to do a good job of career education. Currently, in many families, after their children finish grade 12, parents orient their children to go to university, regardless of their learning ability, economic situation, and especially without paying attention to "output". This leads to the situation that many students after graduating from university cannot find suitable jobs, while the labor market is "thirsty" for skilled human resources.

Therefore, it is necessary to orient students right from high school: if they have average academic performance and their families are poor, then learning a trade and working in factories and companies is the right choice. This not only solves the problem of sustainable employment, but also helps society balance labor supply and demand.

In addition to the responsibilities of family, school and society, businesses also need to innovate to attract and retain workers. In reality, the salary of garment workers in many companies in the province is only about 4 - 4.5 million VND/month, including overtime. With this income, workers can hardly take care of their families, raise children to study, let alone save. Therefore, the difficulty in recruiting is understandable.

Businesses need to consider raising income levels, while paying more attention to the material and spiritual lives of workers: accommodation, meals, insurance, and a safe working environment. When workers feel respected and their lives are guaranteed, they will stay long-term.

Another important direction is to apply technology and digital transformation to reduce dependence on manual labor. Mr. Nguyen Van Du - owner of a mechanical processing facility in Yen Bai ward, has invested in new generation CNC machines and laser iron cutting machines. Thanks to that, the products have higher quality, save raw materials and especially do not require much labor.

Similarly, Ms. Nguyen Hong Nhung - Director of Hung Phat Company, a business specializing in providing wood processing equipment in Hanoi said: "A new generation wood cutting machine, pre-programmed, has cut 2 workers, increased productivity 4 times, of course contributing to reducing product costs; changing technology is a vital factor. Many wood processing enterprises in Lao Cai have boldly invested and have been successful."

This is proof that technological innovation not only helps businesses improve their competitiveness, but also partly solves the problem of labor scarcity.

It can be affirmed that the situation of enterprises in Lao Cai province having difficulty in recruiting workers is a reality with multi-dimensional causes: the shift of labor to the service sector, the psychology of preferring to work in industrial zones and big cities, the trend of self-employment in the local economy, as well as inadequacies in career education and business incentives.

Solving this problem requires synchronous participation: families and schools need to provide the right direction for children; society needs to enhance the value of manual and technical labor; businesses need to improve their remuneration, working environment and boldly apply technology. When these factors are synchronized, the human resource problem for businesses in Lao Cai will be gradually resolved, contributing to promoting the socio-economic development of the locality.
