Bright Star Nguyen Dinh Bac

Nguyen Dinh Bac (7) has affirmed his important role in the journey to win the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship of the Vietnam U23 team. With his smart movement and delicate finishing, this young striker has become the focal point of the attack of coach Kim Sang-sik and his team.

Born in 2004, Dinh Bac grew up in the training center of Quang Nam Club and quickly made his mark in the V-League thanks to his dribbling speed and powerful long-range shooting skills. In this year's regional tournament, Dinh Bac showed remarkable progress in both physical strength and tactical thinking. Not only scoring important goals, this striker also contributed to the overall gameplay with continuous assists and pressing, creating great pressure on the opponent's defense.

The Nghe An striker appeared in all 4 matches, scoring 2 goals and 1 assist. In the final match, despite being closely marked and unable to score, he still contributed to harassing the U23 Indonesia defense, helping his team win the championship. Dinh Bac's impressive performance scored points with experts and he was voted the Best Player of the Tournament.

With a tireless fighting spirit, courage at decisive moments and a desire to contribute, Dinh Bac is on his way to becoming a key striker in the national team in the near future.

New discovery named Nguyen Cong Phuong

Nguyen Cong Phuong (18) made an impression when he scored a "super product" to help U23 Vietnam defeat U23 Indonesia 1-0 in the final match of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship.

Previously, the 19-year-old midfielder was only a reserve in the U23 Vietnam squad at this tournament. The talent from The Cong Viettel scored points when he was put into the starting lineup by Coach Kim in the semi-final match and continued to be used in the "throne" match.

Despite his young age, Cong Phuong has performed quite well in his role as a winger. The player born in 2006 not only possesses speed and skillful technique, but also shows effectiveness in decisive finishing moves, helping U23 Vietnam step up to the championship.

Growing up from Viettel's training center, Cong Phuong is a promising talent, soon being used in the V-League. In this year's tournament, he is the main striker in coach Kim Sang-sik's scheme. Each of Cong Phuong's sprints makes the opponent's defense falter, at the same time creating many diverse attack options for the home team.

Nguyen Cong Phuong is expected to continue to develop to soon become a mainstay of the national team. His comprehensive offensive and defensive abilities, fiery fighting spirit and coolness in decisive situations are turning him into one of the brightest gems of Vietnamese football.

Tactical rotation

It was thought that Vietnam's defeat to Malaysia in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers would put pressure on coach Kim Sang-sik. However, the Korean strategist has proven his tactical talent through his journey to win the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship.

This achievement is the result of the resilient fighting spirit and careful preparation of U23 Vietnam over the past month. Admitting that he was under a lot of pressure when playing away from home with an overwhelming number of home fans, coach Kim Sang-sik still knew how to overcome the challenge, motivate his players and change the tactics quite reasonably.

Evaluating the performance of U23 Vietnam, Mr. Kim said: "We did not create many attacking opportunities but we preserved the game and maintained our defense until the end. The players played to the best of their ability, executing the coaching staff's intentions."

With a 1-0 victory in the final match, U23 Vietnam not only successfully defended the title but also ended the journey at U23 Southeast Asia 2025 with a record of 3 consecutive championships. This result also helped Mr. Kim and his team bring home 2 billion VND in prize money.
