Con Lon maintains new rural criteria

- According to the project to merge administrative units at commune and town levels in Na Hang district, Con Lon commune will merge with Sinh Long commune, named Con Lon commune, with its headquarters located in Con Lon commune. As the second new rural commune of Na Hang district to be recognized in 2016 after Nang Kha commune, the merger with a difficult commune of the district will raise the question of what needs to be done to maintain the new rural criteria.

Internal strength of new rural commune

Con Lon, also known as Trung Muong land, is endowed by nature with extremely favorable natural conditions. Starting from a difficult highland commune, but with the determination and efforts of the Party Committee, government and people, after only 5 years (2011 - 2016) the commune has completed and reached the finish line of building a new countryside.

Although only over 30 years old, Mr. Nguyen Van Phon, Na Nam village, already owns 7 white horses with a living capital of nearly 300 million VND. Mr. Phon said that in 2020, after working many jobs far away, he decided to return to his hometown to start a business. He borrowed more than 100 million VND from the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development of Na Hang district. With his own capital, he bought 7 white horses to raise in the form of "fattening" and built new barns at a cost of 250 million VND. In 2024, Mr. Phon was very happy, he had just sold 5 horses for more than 130 million VND. Thanks to proper breeding techniques, after 1 year, each horse gained 50 - 70 kg, each horse earned a profit of over 10 million VND.

In Lung Vai village, the most difficult village of Con Lon commune, there is a Party cell secretary who is both talkative and hands-on, making everyone admire him. The first impression when meeting Secretary Sung A Lau is probably the image of the village cadre working feverishly on a brand new laptop. Secretary Lau introduced that although Lung Vai is located in a valley, it only has 15 hectares of land that can grow rice, the rest of the barren land is for growing corn in one crop.

People in Con Lon commune take advantage of streams to raise waterfowl.

By chance, in 2014, he visited the experimental model of hybrid corn variety NK 4300 and boldly asked to do the experiment. To gain the trust of the people, he and 2 people in the village established a "Corn Growing Cooperative" with 3 members, planting on an area of ​​nearly 10 hectares. That year, hybrid corn yielded 4 tons/ha, 3 times higher than native corn. Since 2015, Lung Vai's food problem has been completely resolved.

In Lung Vai, the young generation now has a new mindset, the whole village currently has 50 workers working in industrial parks, 5/7 of the exported workers of Con Lon commune are people from Lung Vai. The whole village has 78 households, of which only 4 are poor, many winter vegetable models, fattening cow models are gradually being applied by the people. The average income per capita is currently about 40 million VND/person/year.

Merging with the commune is difficult.

Starting from July 1, Con Lon commune will merge with Sinh Long commune to form the new Con Lon commune. With the internal strength of a new rural commune, Con Lon will be determined to rise up with Sinh Long, although this story will encounter countless difficulties and challenges.

Because when mentioning Sinh Long commune, at first hearing, everyone imagines a difficult land, located in a dead end of Na Hang district. The whole commune has nearly 709 households, of which 569 are poor households, accounting for 80.6%. Previously, Sinh Long commune was poor partly because of the difficult transportation; backward farming practices, people only grew one crop of anything, leaving the rest of the land empty, regardless of whether the granaries ran out of rice or the gardens ran out of vegetables, they did not care.

However, those difficulties are being overcome by the commune as the traffic system is gradually being consolidated, making travel and trade more convenient. Sinh Long Commune Party Secretary Nguyen Quoc Luan said that the Resolution of the 22nd Commune Party Congress, term 2020 - 2025, determined that socio -economic development focuses mainly on 3 areas including livestock farming, tea development and labor export.

The entire Sinh Long commune currently has more than 991 hectares of ancient tea and planted tea, of which 50.5 hectares are being exploited. The commune also has 6 cooperatives and enterprises that trade, process, produce, purchase and consume Shan Tuyet tea. However, the purchase and consumption of fresh tea products for Shan Tuyet tea growers is still unstable, so many tea growers are not really interested in improving, caring for and expanding Shan Tuyet tea.

Sinh Long is the capital of specialty black pigs with a quantity of over 4,000 pigs, the annual revenue from selling black pigs reaches about 2.5 billion VND. Secretary of the Party Cell of Phieng Ngam village Hoang Van Manh shared that his family just sold the first batch of pigs this year and earned nearly 50 million VND. This year, pigs are sold at 80,000 VND/kg, traders compete to buy for fear of running out of stock. Sinh Long black pigs have delicious meat quality, but a lot of fat, weighing up to 100 kg after 8 months of raising. Sinh Long black pigs are easy to raise, easy to sell, and are out of stock every year.

By the end of 2024, Sinh Long commune has achieved 6/19 criteria to meet the standards of a new-style rural commune, with an average income per capita of 18.2 million VND/person/year, and a poverty rate of nearly 80%. Currently, the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction; the National Target Program for Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas with an allocated capital of over 9.5 billion VND are being effective. In early 2025, the Khuoi Phin irrigation dam maintenance project will be put into use, providing irrigation water for over 100 hectares of rice to ensure timely growth.

In the socio-economic development plan, Sinh Long commune strives to reduce the poverty rate to below 60% by the end of 2025, creating new jobs for over 150 workers. The commune is continuing to increase the attraction of resources for investment in new rural construction, effectively implementing solutions to promote rural economic development, and improving the material and spiritual life of the people.

Enough potential to support the poor

According to Secretary of the Party Committee of Con Lon commune, Duong Van Noi: With the internal strength of a new rural commune, Con Lon will work with Sinh Long commune to overcome difficulties and exploit potential strengths to rise up.

Traveling to many communes in the highlands, it is rare to find a locality with a natural rice growing area that is as fertile and has a larger scale than Con Lon field. With a field area of ​​nearly 80 hectares, located along the Nam Muong stream, there is never a shortage of water all year round. Currently, the people in the commune have turned this field into a large model field, sowing the same seeds, planting the same tea, and taking care of the same crops. The rice yield has increased to over 80 quintals/ha, every household has full granaries of rice, and there is no need to worry about a shortage of rice all year round.

When mentioning Con Lon, people will immediately think of geese and ducks. Taking advantage of the Nam Muong stream flowing from Thuong Nong to Yen Hoa through the commune center, the people of Trung Muong village have strongly developed the raising of native geese and ducks. With nearly 13 years of experience in raising geese, Mr. Nguyen Quang Be, Trung Muong village, said that his family currently has a flock of more than 40 geese. Con Lon geese are famous for their delicious meat quality, only eating grass, wading in streams and eating cleanly, so traders from everywhere come to buy them. The entire Trung Muong village currently has over 90 households, of which more than 40 households raise geese, the flock currently has over 700 geese, from geese each year families have an income of 20 - 40 million VND.

Party Secretary of Duong Van Noi commune shared that Con Lon today is no longer a dead end because there is Na Dau road connecting to Thuong Nong commune (Na Hang) and trading with Ha Giang, Cao Bang ... Currently, the average income per capita reaches 45 million VND/person/year, the whole commune has built over 17 km of rural concrete roads.

Therefore, if the potential and strengths of the two communes are combined, along with the solidarity and consensus of the Party Committee, government and people, we believe that after the merger, Con Lon will strive to maintain the title of new rural area.
