On the afternoon of May 6, at the Presidential Palace, Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh presided over the welcoming ceremony for Crown Princess of Sweden Victoria Ingrid Alice Désiree. Afterwards, Crown Princess of Sweden Victoria Ingrid Alice Désiree held talks with Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, paid a courtesy call to Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, and attended the Business Forum between the two countries.
Princess Victoria Ingrid Alice Désiree, born in 1977, is the eldest child of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden and Queen Silvia. She married in 2010 and has two children. The princess studied politics and history at Yale University in the United States, then completed a course on international conflict resolution and peacebuilding. She worked at the United Nations in 2002 and at the Swedish Embassy in the United States in 1999. As one of the 17 Ambassadors of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Group, Princess Victoria Ingrid Alice Désiree mainly promotes sustainable development issues, oceans and fisheries policy.
Sweden was the first Western country to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam in 1969, when Vietnam was struggling for independence and unification and was under an extremely difficult embargo. Sweden is an important partner of Vietnam in Europe. Sweden has provided Vietnam with a total of 3.4 billion USD in non-refundable aid. Two-way trade turnover in 2018 reached more than 1.8 billion USD.
Currently, Sweden ranks 34th out of 134 countries and territories investing in Vietnam, with 67 valid projects and a total registered capital of 347 million USD. Some famous Swedish corporations such as Ericson, Electrolux, IKEA, ABB… are investing and doing business effectively in Vietnam.
