Long Hoa Prison Union: Accompanying and taking care of the lives of officers and soldiers, supporting prisoners

Over the past 10 years, under the leadership of the Party Committee, the coordination of the Board of Supervisors and mass organizations, the Grassroots Trade Union of Long Hoa Prison (Department C10 - Ministry of Public Security) has become a solid "support" for officers, soldiers and workers, and at the same time made an important contribution to the work of educating and reforming prisoners. Practical, persistent and meaningful work has affirmed the role of the Trade Union not only in protecting the legitimate rights and interests of union members but also in building a humane, disciplined and affectionate environment right in the prison.

By early 2025, the Union officially closed its journey of operation, but the marks left in the hearts of officers, soldiers and prisoners still have value, becoming an important part of the unit's tradition.

"Support" for cadres and union members

Over the past 10 years, the Long Hoa Prison Union has always identified taking care of the lives of officers and soldiers as a key task, closely linked to the stability and development of the unit. By the end of 2024, the Union will have 2 groups with 18 members. In the special working environment, each activity initiated by the Union is close and suitable to practical needs.

“We always consider the Union as the center, each policy and support program must be truly practical, creating motivation for our brothers to work with peace of mind. The Union is not only a place to protect rights but also a common home, a place to share and encourage” - Major Nguyen Minh Tuan - Team Leader of the Staff Team, former Chairman of the Union of Long Hoa Prison, shared.

For 10 years, the regimes and policies of the Union and employees have always been implemented by the unit in accordance with the provisions of the law, 100% of the Union members have been examined, treated and have health insurance cards. The rest regime, salary increase and promotion are guaranteed to be fair, accurate, in accordance with regulations and to the right subjects. On the occasion of Tet, all Union members and employees receive gifts, with priority given to supporting difficult cases. Although the gifts are not large, they are a timely sharing and encouragement, helping the Union members to be more confident in their work.

Major Le Trong Tuan - Officer of the Planning Team of Long Hoa Prison, said: "The most valuable thing we received was not only material things but also sharing and companionship. The Union has helped officers and soldiers become more united and have more motivation to complete the task of managing and reforming prisoners."

In the meetings, the Union always promotes the role of union members in proposing content, performing tasks and supervising the activities of the grassroots union and the Executive Committee of the grassroots union; always innovates the forms of activities; seriously implements the effective union work program.

Not only taking care of the material life, the Union also cares about the spirit of the Union members. Sports, cultural and artistic movements, political and traditional exchange activities take place regularly, creating a cohesive atmosphere. The Union also coordinates with the Youth Union and the Women's Union to organize many meaningful programs such as Happy Children's Day; organizes activities to celebrate International Labor Day and Workers' Month; coordinates with local police to propagate traffic safety skills, skills to prevent and combat school violence.

In 2024, the Union coordinated with organizations to present 493 gifts to children of officers and soldiers on the occasion of International Children's Day June 1 and Mid-Autumn Festival; 109 gifts to commend children of officers and soldiers with high academic achievements. In particular, the Union also organized gift giving to children who are children of prisoners. Thereby, both spreading concern and creating motivation for officers, union members as well as prisoners serving their sentences.

In particular, the Executive Committee of the Trade Union always understands the thoughts and aspirations of the members, encourages them to work with peace of mind, strive and train; promptly reflects and proposes to the Party Committee and leaders to develop and promulgate plans and launch emulation movements to all staff and members.

Spreading humanity

Along with taking care of the Party members, the Long Hoa Prison Union also actively spreads the spirit of social responsibility. Every year, the Union participates in activities such as "Repaying gratitude", "Drinking water, remembering its source", coordinating with organizations and unions to give gifts, provide health check-ups for policy families, clean the Memorial House of Ba Vu Tram Forest Relic Site, and light candles to pay tribute to heroes and martyrs.

In 2024, implementing the direction of Department C10, the Party Committee of the Supervisory Board and the Trade Union coordinated with organizations to organize the launching ceremony of "Tet tree planting - For a green Vietnam", planting 450 star apple and trumpet trees on the main road of the agency and around the barracks, contributing to building a clean and beautiful landscape.

In particular, the Union accompanies the work of educating and reforming prisoners. Mr. NVT - a prisoner being reformed at Long Hoa Prison, shared: "Participating in labor, arts or sports with the staff helps us feel cared for and respected. I feel that I still have a chance to correct my mistakes and return to my family and society."

Many prisoners, after serving their sentences, sent letters of thanks to the unit, expressing that the encouragement and care from the staff and meaningful collective activities helped them change their thinking and nurture their desire to reform. This is a silent achievement that the unit's Union has contributed to building.

Although the Long Hoa Prison Union has ended its journey of operation, the values ​​that the organization left behind continue to accompany the unit. That is the spirit of sharing, the quiet but persistent companionship of a united collective, where officers and soldiers find "support", prisoners find faith in reformation and the community sees a humane and close image. Although it no longer exists in the form of an organization, the Union spirit continues to spread in every activity of the Long Hoa Prison collective today and tomorrow./.
