On September 22, 2025, NASA introduced 10 new astronauts chosen from more than 8,000 applicants – the first time there were more women than men in a single selection class. They include scientists , engineers, and test pilots, including:

A SpaceX engineer has completed a commercial flight with the first private spacewalk.
A geologist who worked on the Curiosity rover project on Mars.
Many military officers and rocket launch specialists will undergo two years of training before they are qualified to fly into space.

NASA hopes one of them could be the first person to set foot on Mars.

Blue Origin wins contract to send VIPER rover to the Moon

On September 22, 2025, NASA awarded Blue Origin a contract worth approximately $190 million to send the VIPER rover to the south pole of the Moon using the unmanned Blue Moon Mk1 lander.

VIPER (Volatiles Investigating Polar Exploration Rover) was canceled by NASA in 2024 due to high costs, even though most of the hardware was completed.

With the new contract, VIPER will be deployed in late 2027 to drill and survey potential water ice – a vital resource for long-term missions on the Moon.

Oracle will have 2 new CEOs at the same time

On September 22, 2025, Oracle announced the appointment of Clay Magouyrk and Mike Sicilia as co-CEOs, replacing Safra Catz, who will transition to the role of Executive Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Magouyrk was a founding member of Oracle's cloud engineering group and led the cloud infrastructure business for more than 10 years. Sicilia joined Oracle in 2008 through the Primavera Systems acquisition and most recently served as president of the industrial business.

The move comes as Oracle ramps up investments in AI infrastructure, including major deals with OpenAI and Meta.

Nvidia joins hands with OpenAI, investing $100 billion in super AI infrastructure

On September 22, 2025, OpenAI announced a strategic partnership with Nvidia to build at least 10 gigawatts of AI data centers using Nvidia systems – equivalent to millions of GPUs for new model development.

Nvidia has pledged to invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI over time, depending on how the infrastructure is deployed. The deal marks a major shift after Microsoft was no longer OpenAI’s sole computing provider.

“Computing infrastructure will be the foundation for the future economy ,” asserts CEO Sam Altman.
