Vietnam Military History Museum receives Grand Prize of National Architecture Award

The 2025 National Architecture Award Ceremony took place on the evening of May 20 at the Hanoi Opera House with the participation of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha said he was impressed with the record number and quality of the works awarded today.

Recognizing the talent, dedication and responsibility to the community of the architects, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha said the Government will create the most favorable conditions to develop modern Vietnamese architecture, pioneering the creation of architectural works bearing the mark of Vietnam.

Vietnam Military History Museum - great joy for professionals

About the Grand Prize for the Vietnam Military History Museum, In the 16-year history of the National Architecture Award, this is the second time this award has been given.

The Vietnam Military History Museum was designed by a group of architects Hiroshi Miyakawa, Trinh Viet A, Michio Oizumi, Nguyen Dinh Dong, Gen Sugiyama of Nikken Sekkei Ltd.

Architect Phan Dang Son - Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Architects, Chairman of the award council - affirmed that this is a worthy recognition for modern architectural creation, international integration but still promoting national cultural identity.

The presentation in both form and content of the Vietnam Military History Museum has been recognized by experts and the domestic and international community. Mr. Son said this is a great joy for the field and those working in the profession.

The award council commented that the Military History Museum is a monumental architectural work, showing a large scale of investment and dedication. Not only ensuring the quality of design and construction, the work also contains profound social value.

The museum is symbolic with a unique idea, reasonably exploiting the cultural characteristics and history of the Vietnamese people fighting against foreign invaders with the legend of "An Duong Vuong's crossbow". This increases the educational value of gratitude and patriotism of the Vietnamese people.

The facade design is made up of a row of extremely minimalist columns but evokes a sense of majesty and respect. The uniqueness of the building lies in the element: with just one column, the architect created an entire temple.

The master plan is a solution to reasonably connect the museum with the surrounding landscape like a park, meeting the needs of diverse outdoor exhibitions and activities of the community.

The interior design of the display area is arranged reasonably and intelligently, fully meeting the functions of the project. In addition, the rawness of the exposed concrete in the interior enhances the value of the displayed items...

Fun, unique and full of character

In addition to the Grand Prize, the 2025 National Architecture Award also honored 52 outstanding works, including 5 gold prizes, 12 silver prizes, and 35 bronze prizes.

Among the 5 gold awards, there is a gold award for the project of Reconstruction of Nu village and Nam Tong village (Lao Cai) by the group of architects Hoang Thuc Hao, Nguyen Xuan Ngoc, Vu Xuan Son and associates of 1+1>2 International Construction Architecture Joint Stock Company; Institute of Architecture and Construction Planning - Lao Cai Department of Construction.

And some other honors for the unit with the most achievements in the award period, the award for the development of architecture and the award for the work with the most votes from the community.

The National Architecture Awards Council 2024 - 2025 commented that this year's participating works have made progress in both quantity and quality, demonstrating diversity and richness in types, from popular works such as houses and restaurants to high-end projects such as hotels and yachts...

Especially the return of works in the heritage conservation category. This is a positive signal, demonstrating the harmonious relationship between modern architecture and respecting and treating past heritage, towards a sustainable future.

In addition, this year's award-winning works show that the creative thinking of Vietnamese architects has been innovative, updated with world trends, while focusing on exploiting traditional cultural identity, emphasizing the functionality and context of the project.

Professor - architect Marco Casamonti, member of the jury, assessed the quality of the projects participating in this year's National Architecture Awards as quite high.

"At the moment, many Vietnamese architects are creating really interesting, unique and courageous works," said architect Marco Casamonti said.
