On August 26, New Zealand dairy company Milkio Foods Limited was fined 420,000 NZD (about 261,452 USD) for fraudulently declaring the origin of its products.
Milkio labeled its butter products as “100% pure New Zealand,” but used butter imported from India to make them, the court ruled.
The New Zealand Trade Commission has launched an investigation and found Milkio in breach of the country's Fair Trading Act. The company provided false and incomplete information about the origin of its products to obtain permission to use the FernMark logo - a prestigious symbol reserved for New Zealand-made products.
The New Zealand Trade Commission has taken Milkio to court. Milkio has admitted 15 breaches of the New Zealand Fair Trading Act.
