On March 21st, the Hoan Kiem District People's Committee announced that the district had completed the investment preparation for the project to renovate Ly Thai To flower garden. The district plans to place the Km0 milestone right in front of the statue of King Ly Thai To.
The renovation of the flower garden and the installation of the Km0 milestone are expected to be carried out from April 2025 and completed in October 2025.
Regarding the Km0 milestone, Hoan Kiem district, along with the consulting unit and the winning team of the Km0 milestone design competition, will install the structure in the center of the ceremonial square in Ly Thai To flower garden.

Earlier in 2020, Hanoi held a ceremony to announce the results of the design competition for the Kilometer Zero Milestone (part of the Investment Project for the construction, renovation and beautification of the area surrounding Hoan Kiem Lake). The winning design was the product of young lecturers from Hanoi University of Architecture.
According to the winning design, the landmark is a solid, square bronze plate, 6 cm thick and measuring 4 m². At its center is a square bearing the symbol of Hanoi, the capital city. The Km0 landmark will be placed in front of the statue of King Ly Thai To (Hoan Kiem District).
According to the design team, the copper plate is cast as a single piece from pure brass. After the patterns are completed, the copper plate will be coated with three layers of protective anti-oxidation paint, resulting in a matte finish.
The decorative patterns are stylized from a treasure trove of traditional motifs with high generalization, representing images of nature and people of Vietnam throughout 4,000 years of history, such as mountains, clouds, water, villages, cities, temples, and people.

Notably, the lighting aspect of the building will be a highlight, featuring 3D hologram projectors capable of displaying various lighting scenarios based on the original image to suit different events.
In the evening, a projector will project a 3D holographic image onto the space above the bronze relief. The image is a stylized number 0, representing a geographical symbol. The figure is stylized like a square doorway, facing directly towards the axis of the statue of King Ly Thai To.
During the day, the 3D hologram projector will display the Hanoi City logo on the lower part of the glass panel. In some cases, during city or national events, this image will be changed accordingly, for example, to a map of Vietnam with its full territory and maritime boundaries.
According to the designer, holographic technology creates a three-dimensional image suspended in the air without the need for a screen, allowing viewers to observe a 360-degree floating image without the need for any special glasses.
