Previously, the consumption of agricultural products in Thai Nguyen mainly relied on traditional retail methods, resulting in a small market and low added value for agricultural products. In implementing Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo and the Prime Minister's directives and instructions related to e-commerce, the Provincial People's Committee has issued numerous documents directing departments, agencies, and localities to implement comprehensive solutions to strengthen state management and promote e-commerce development in the province.

From here, businesses, cooperatives, and individuals gradually access e-commerce, can create promotional videos for their own products, and directly participate in online sales events organized by Thai Nguyen province.

The biggest success was that the Department of Industry and Trade advised the Provincial People's Committee to sign a memorandum of cooperation with TikTok Vietnam and Shopee Vietnam Co., Ltd. From there, millions of customers nationwide have been able to access agricultural products from Thai Nguyen province on the TikTok Shop e-commerce platform and the Shopee e-commerce platform.

After many days of effort, with the support and assistance of the Provincial People's Committee, the Department of Industry and Trade of Thai Nguyen, and Shopee Vietnam, in early April 2025, Ban Viet Production and Trade and Service Cooperative launched the Ban Viet - Thai Nguyen store on the Shopee e-commerce platform, connected to the "Thai Nguyen Products Store" page.

Ms. Bui Thi Hai Yen, Director of Ban Viet Production, Trade and Service Cooperative, reported: As of July 3, 2025, Ban Viet Cooperative had organized 120 livestream sessions to promote and sell products on the Shopee e-commerce platform; uploaded 84 products/product sets to its store; and successfully sold 900 orders. We are coordinating with other units and cooperatives to bring typical products of Thai Nguyen province to our store; and organizing daily livestream sales to introduce, promote, and sell our products.

In the northern communes of the province, in recent times, departments, agencies, associations, and organizations have intensified support for people to create accounts on e-commerce platforms. According to statistics, to date, nearly 16,000 farming households in the former Bac Kan province have been supported in creating accounts on e-commerce platforms, with over 300 specialty products listed on Postmart.vn.

In April 2025, the Farmers' Association of Bac Kan province (now Thai Nguyen) organized 8 training courses for nearly 300 cooperative directors and cooperative group leaders on digital transformation, brand building, and accessing e-commerce markets.

Through training programs and support in packaging and label design, as well as creating e-commerce accounts, thousands of farmers in the northern communes of Thai Nguyen province have been able to promote and sell their products on digital platforms.

Expanding business space

In addition to supporting businesses, cooperatives, and agricultural and forestry production facilities to conduct business on e-commerce platforms, Thai Nguyen province is also promoting the development of e-commerce street models.

This initiative aims to support businesses and establishments in maximizing the advantages and potential of the digital economy, opening up new opportunities and enhancing customer experience by combining online and in-person shopping; promoting cashless payments and optimizing logistics.

Ms. Doan Thi Thuy Duong, owner of the "Thuy Duong - Office Fashion" shop on Luong Ngoc Quyen Street, Phan Dinh Phung Ward, shared: "I and other business owners who registered to participate in the e-commerce street have received comprehensive training on e-commerce and online business from the Department of Industry and Trade."

We were also guided on how to open and operate stores on Shopee and TikTok, manage orders, take product photos, design techniques with Canva software, edit videos with Capcut software, livestream on TikTok and Shopee, promote products, and set up promotional programs... thereby opening up new business opportunities," added Ms. Doan Thi Thuy Duong.

Not only Ms. Doan Thi Thuy Duong, but to date, 162 businesses along Luong Ngoc Quyen street have registered to participate in the e-commerce street model to open stalls and conduct business on e-commerce platforms and websites.

Na Vo Nhai's identification number increases its value.

To promote value chain development, Thai Nguyen province has decided to build a brand for Na Vo Nhai products as a basis for replication, aiming to form a "Thai Nguyen garden" in the digital environment for the province's strong and advantageous crops. This will gradually change the mindset and methods in agricultural production, shifting from a traditional agricultural production mindset to an agricultural economy linked to digital transformation.

The Center for Agricultural Extension and Environment (under the Department of Agriculture and Environment) has developed a digital model of a custard apple orchard in Vo Nhai with 100 trees. The model implements VietGAP-compliant care, intensive cultivation with staggered harvesting to extend the harvesting period, achieving a yield of 20-30 kg/tree/year, assigning unique codes to each tree, and applying software for managing production and sales practices on a digital platform.

Two households, those of Mr. Kieu Thuong Chat and Mr. Nguyen Van Giang, residing in Mo Ga hamlet, Vo Nhai commune, are participating in this model. The implementation period is from January to December 2025.

Mr. Kieu Thuong Chat's household in Mo Ga hamlet, Vo Nhai commune, has 60 custard apple trees with QR code identification tags containing all the farm's data, which are then connected to a 24/7 camera system.

The model is equipped with a 24/7 camera system connected to a digital platform. Each custard apple tree is assigned a unique identifier via a QR code containing all the farm's data and the tree's information, which is then linked to the 24/7 camera system. A digital platform connects custard apple growers and buyers in a digital environment.

The goal of this model, when applying e-commerce to sell custard apple trees and providing a custard apple tree care experience, is to increase value, with one custard apple tree helping farmers harvest 6 million VND per year.

The diversification of policies supporting businesses, cooperatives, and farmers' households in applying digital transformation and doing business on e-commerce platforms has made positive contributions to the development of trade and services in the province.

E-commerce sales in the province currently account for over 10% of total retail sales of goods and consumer services. This reflects the strong development of online distribution channels, especially in the consumer goods and agricultural sectors.
