Eliminate the “gaps”

Currently, Quang Nam province has two districts without towns: Nam Tra My and Tay Giang. Resolution No. 67, dated December 6, 2024, of the Provincial People's Council has determined the establishment of towns for these two districts based on the urban areas of Tak Po (Nam Tra My) and A Tieng (Tay Giang). The process of completing the recognition of these towns is being urgently pursued by relevant authorities for completion in 2025.

According to the Department of Construction, the general urban plan for Tak Po is expected to be completed in April 2025, followed by the completion of the urban development program and a review of the proposal for recognizing it as a type V urban area in June 2025. As for A Tieng, the general plan and urban development program, along with a review for classification as a type V urban area, will be completed by September 2025.

The establishment of Tak Pỏ town (based on the existing status of Trà Mai commune) will contribute to developing the potential and position of the locality. At the same time, it will create a legal basis for the transformation of the management model from a rural local government to an urban government.

The new town of Tăk Pỏ will contribute to promoting the urbanization process of the district, creating an attractive environment to attract investment for socio-economic development, while also promoting inter-regional connectivity between Quảng Nam - Quảng Ngãi - Kon Tum and branch roads connecting the district with neighboring provinces.

Meanwhile, after more than 20 years of implementing the plan, the technical and social infrastructure systems, architectural appearance, and urban landscape of A Tieng have made remarkable progress.

The establishment of A Tieng town will be a driving force for the continued socio-economic development of Tay Giang district. It will also serve as a foundation for A Tieng to achieve breakthroughs and sustainable development, becoming the administrative, economic, and social center of the district, and contributing to the socio-economic development of the border region with Laos.

Establishing new cities

The Quang Nam Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, has determined that by 2025, the province's urbanization rate must reach over 37%.

To contribute to achieving this goal, it is necessary to upgrade the two towns of Nam Phuoc and Ha Lam to type IV urban areas, as well as to form four new urban areas: Duy Hai - Duy Nghia (Duy Xuyen), Binh Minh (Thang Binh), Dai Hiep (Dai Loc), and Tam Dan (Phu Ninh).

All four new urban areas were planned quite some time ago and received significant investment to ensure they were officially recognized as urban areas within the specified timeframe; however, all four have encountered different challenges.

For example, the Dai Hiep new urban area still has 13 out of 63 standards that have not been met according to the assessment of the Department of Construction. Meanwhile, after many complications, the Duy Hai - Duy Nghia new urban area, which has been eagerly awaited for many years, is nearing completion.

According to Tran Nam Hung, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, the Duy Hai - Duy Nghia urban master plan has basically met the requirements for submission for approval. During the process of finalizing the dossier, additional marina locations will be studied to ensure they align with the local tourism development orientation and the actual investment opportunities.

According to the Provincial People's Committee, although the progress of implementing the general plan and urban development program varies, all four urban areas of Duy Hai - Duy Nghia, Binh Minh, Tam Dan, and Dai Hiep must submit applications for recognition as type V urban areas by November 2025.

Thus, once these new urban areas are officially established, a large urban region will form in the north and east of the province, creating a continuous strip connecting with Da Nang City from Dai Hiep - Ai Nghia down to Dien Ban - Nam Phuoc (Duy Xuyen) town and stretching from Hoi An City along to Duy Hai - Duy Nghia, Binh Minh.

According to the Quang Nam province's urban development plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, Quang Nam is expected to have 23 urban areas by 2025. These include 1 Type II urban area (Tam Ky City); 1 Type III urban area (Hoi An City); 2 Type IV urban areas (Dien Ban and Nui Thanh); and 19 Type V urban areas.
