The life of poetess Ho Xuan Huong on the poetic stage

(CLO) The poetic play "Poet Ho Xuan Huong" staged by the World Youth Theater recreates the life of a talented but troubled female poet.

The Youth World Theater (Ho Chi Minh City University of Theatre and Cinema) premiered the poetic play "Poetess Ho Xuan Huong" (author: Nguyen Duc Minh, director: People's Artist Trinh Thuy Mui) on the evening of October 24.

In the play, the artists recreated the life of a talented but troubled female writer. Notably, in addition to the dialogue, there were 20 famous poems by Ho Xuan Huong inserted into the dramatic situations.

The play will partly recreate the life of Ho Xuan Huong. She dared to love, dared to fight for women's rights, dared to protect what she considered right and what she loved.

The audience also had the opportunity to hear again about her love affair with Nguyen Du - her first love but also her deepest. And Nguyen Du eventually became the place where she placed her hope to appeal for justice.

Poet Chieu Ho was infatuated and cruel when he could not have love for Xuan Huong. A talented Tong Coc, both in literature and in martial arts, could not protect Xuan Huong from his two wives and the cruel world, so he had to let her go to satisfy his literary passion...

Overcoming the fate that society has assigned to women, Ho Xuan Huong has become a symbol of female intellectuals, using her pen to fight against tyranny, bringing her voice and profound criticisms to a society where "officials are neither officials nor lords".

Besides, the romantic and soaring love poems of the poetess throughout the play also bring many emotions to those who love Ho Xuan Huong's poetry.

The play features familiar artists such as Hoang Yen, Xuan Hong - Quoc Viet (Mr. Phu Vinh Tuong), Tay Phong (Chieu Ho), Le Hoang Giang (Nguyen Du), Phuong Minh (Tong Coc's wife), Huy Thuc (Teacher De with a lisp)...

In particular, the role of Tong Coc was given to a “brand new” face, actor Cong Hau, who had just graduated from the University of Theatre and Cinema 2 years ago. Despite his young age, Cong Hau played very maturely alongside his experienced colleagues.

Previously, the poetic drama "Poet Lady Ho Xuan Huong" also received many compliments from the Arts Council of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City.

After the first performance on the evening of October 24, the World Youth Theater continues to bring "Poet Ho Xuan Huong" to serve the audience with performances on October 29, November 21 and 28, and December 12.
