Gratitude to Vi Xuyen veterans

Mr. Truong Tan Sang and leaders of Ha Giang province presented gifts to more than 200 veterans and 100 victims of bombs and mines in Vi Xuyen. Each gift was worth 5 million VND. These gifts were donated by the "Sharing" group and philanthropists to show gratitude to the veterans.

More than 200 veterans who fought at the Vi Xuyen front during the war to protect the northern border (1979 - 1989) were moved to meet and recall memories of their youth when they devoted themselves to the Fatherland. Many were lucky to still be healthy, many of them left a part of their body on the border battlefield.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Thang, a veteran in Phong Quang commune, Vi Xuyen district, said that Vi Xuyen veterans are always proud to have contributed their blood and bones to protect the border land of the Fatherland.

Mr. Thang said loudly: "We used to live on rocks to fight the enemy, and when we died, we turned into stone and became immortal. We always promote our proud tradition, surpassing ourselves to contribute to building our homeland."

Mr. Vu Van Giua, a veteran in Hung An commune, Bac Quang district (Ha Giang) shared that every time he returned to Vi Xuyen and met his comrades, he was able to relive the days when he was still clinging to the rocks to fight the enemy. According to him, every holiday he received attention, encouragement, and visits from the local government, but the times when he was able to meet everyone and receive warm gifts of gratitude like this time made him extremely emotional.

"I was also surprised that people from the South, Quang Ninh came all the way here to encourage and give us gifts. It has been 45 years but we have not been forgotten, people still remember and show gratitude to the soldiers," Mr. Giua was moved.

Inauguration of border school worth over 1.7 billion VND

On the same day, former President Truong Tan Sang, his wife and the working delegation attended the inauguration ceremony of Ban Hinh school (Minh Tan commune, Vi Xuyen district).

Ban Hinh School has 546 students from kindergarten and primary school.

Ban Hinh Valley is about 6km from the center of Minh Tan commune. People who want to reach the commune have to cross a mountain pass, which is very difficult. The school has 36 teachers who stay in the village to teach the students.

The Ban Hinh school was invested in construction, including a 2-storey classroom building, kitchen renovation, canteen and student toilets, with a total cost of 1.750 billion VND. Vietnam Prosperity Bank (VPBank) sponsored 1.150 billion VND, and Vi Xuyen district budget contributed 600 million VND.

Ms. Loc Thi Lu, 75 years old, a resident of Ban Hinh village, said the old classroom was at the beginning of the village, near her house. Before, the classroom was leaking, making it very difficult for teachers and children to come to school. This new classroom has two floors, has 8 classrooms, and has new desks and chairs, making the villagers very happy.

"I have 8 sons and 5 daughters, and today 5 of them came to see the inauguration!", Mrs. Lu said happily. "Even my daughters-in-law came. It's great to send my grandchildren here to study with a teacher! With knowledge, they will be rich in the future, and won't be poor like us!".

Mr. Hoang Gia Long, Permanent Vice Chairman of Ha Giang Provincial People's Committee, said that Vi Xuyen district has 5 border communes, of which 11 main schools need to be upgraded and repaired.

In the project to improve the quality of education in Ha Giang province, to improve the quality of teaching, it is necessary to gradually transfer students from disadvantaged areas to the main school. However, the main schools in border communes have not yet ensured living and studying conditions for students, lack of accommodation, lack of some auxiliary works and equipment...

"Even at Ban Hinh school, although newly invested, there is still a shortage. Teachers have proposed that there should be a place for boarding students, more industrial water filters, wells, etc. to proactively provide water," said Mr. Long.
