Initiated in 2018, the CJ Short Film Project has been nurturing and nurturing many young talents of Vietnamese cinema. After 3 seasons, up to now, short films completed within the framework of the program have been selected to be screened and won awards at more than 50 leading film festivals in the world such as: Berlin Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival, Venice Film Festival, Busan Film Festival...
Typically, the short film Be Awake and Be Ready by director Pham Thien An (season 1) won the Illy Award at the Directors' Week, Cannes Film Festival 2019. And soon, Inside the Golden Cocoon , Pham Thien An's first feature film developed from the above short film, will continue to compete at the Cannes Film Festival 2023.
The contestants of the previous season are also starting to conquer the path of professional filmmaking with their first film projects. These are projects that are receiving a lot of attention from domestic and foreign filmmaking circles, notably: Everything is fixed (Le Lam Vien), Cu li khong bao gio khong (Pham Ngoc Lan), Don't Cry, Butterfly (Duong Dieu Linh)...
Press conference to introduce the CJ Short Film Project 2023 competition
At the press conference, Mr. Ko Jae-soo, General Director of CGV Vietnam shared: “The proud achievements from the program have motivated us to continue our journey of searching for and nurturing young film talents. With the support of the CJ Short Film Project , I believe that young directors will continue to make steady progress on the path of bringing Vietnamese cinema to the world.”
Season 4 increases support for young filmmakers
Entering season 4 with the theme “The Bridge to Glory: Connecting Passions - Reaching International Level”, the CJ Short Film Project will continue to accompany young directors on the path to realizing their dream of making films. In addition to supporting filmmaking costs up to 1.5 billion VND, season 4 is expected to expand support in terms of equipment, post-production, and organize in-depth training courses on production organization skills, directing, editing, etc. One of the rewards for the Top 5 best projects is a production equipment support package sponsored by HK Film. With the above efforts, the program hopes to create conditions for filmmakers to best complete their short film projects.
The judging panel of this year's program continues to be the leading directors and film producers in Vietnam: director Phan Dang Di, producer Tran Thi Bich Ngoc, director Nguyen Hoang Diep, director Trinh Dinh Le Minh, and director Tran Thanh Huy. Regarding the CJ Short Film Project competition, director Phan Dang Di commented: "Up to now, in Vietnam, there has not been any model like the CJ Short Film Project , which directly supports young filmmakers, which in my opinion is equivalent to 'startup support'. Because every director needs to start his career with a solid and well-invested short film project. The CJ Short Film Project has supported you to do that, and has been very successful in the past time."
Judges and competition organizers
In 2023, the CJ Short Film Project will continue to open to Vietnamese citizens aged 18 to 40, especially young people working in the creative field, passionate about filmmaking and looking for opportunities to turn their script ideas into finished films. The program will accept applications until May 28. After the Admission round, the Presentation round of the Top 10 best projects is scheduled to take place on June 14.
