Completed site selection for 100 border schools

(Chinhphu.vn) - At the regular Government meeting in August 2025, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son reported on a number of issues that the education sector has been focusing on handling, including overcoming the consequences of floods, preparing to build 100 new schools, and implementing Resolution 71.

Reporting at the August 2025 Government meeting, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son said that in recent times, the education sector has focused on overcoming floods and natural disasters in the provinces.

The education sector is monitoring the situation and coordinating with provinces to urge the repair and cleaning of schools. The Ministry has directed the Education Publishing House to donate nearly 60,000 sets of textbooks to flood-affected schools, to ensure that no child will be without books at the opening ceremony. The Minister said that although 100% of schools have held the opening ceremony, many schools still need to continue to equip and repair to complete their facilities. Many places only had time to clean up mud and dirt for the opening ceremony, so there is still a lot of work to be done after the opening ceremony in the coming time.

Urgently complete site clearance work to build schools in border areas

Regarding the preparation for the construction of 100 schools in border communes (border schools), according to the Minister, localities have been very active. Up to now, the selection of locations and land areas, the preparation of estimates have been completed, and the site clearance and land preparation work is being urgently completed in accordance with the Prime Minister's direction: localities must take the initiative in taking care of land funds and sites. Currently, the locations for 83 new facilities have been determined, of which 13 schools will be renovated and built on old grounds. The cost estimates have been compiled, and it is expected that next week all procedures will be completed to transfer to the Ministry of Finance to allocate funds to localities.

Minister Nguyen Kim Son said that the opinion of Minister of Construction Nguyen Hong Minh on promoting the role of localities is completely correct. The Minister emphasized that the State only allocates funds, and localities must take the initiative in implementing. The Ministry of Construction has sent 14 design samples for units to refer to and adjust accordingly depending on the terrain and specific scale. The Minister also reported to the Government that although they are called "boarding schools", in fact these schools integrate both boarding and semi-boarding. Students living near the school will be arranged to be semi-boarders - have lunch at school, go home in the evening, and are not required to stay. The Minister affirmed that the name is boarding school but in essence it has both forms.

Regarding the implementation of Resolution 71, Minister Nguyen Kim Son said that the whole sector is actively implementing it. Next week, the Ministry will submit the Government's Action Plan; this is an important preparatory step to develop a Resolution on specific mechanisms to submit to the National Assembly. Related drafts will also be completed and submitted next week, ensuring timely service for the Conference to disseminate Resolution 71 in the coming time. Other specific contents will be implemented by the sector according to plan.
