On May 29th, the Da Nang Traditional Arts Theatre held a performance of the Bài Chòi folk opera "The Story of Thang Bom" - a work expected to contribute to spreading the value of traditional art to a wider audience, especially the younger generation.

Speaking at the performance, Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, Director of the Da Nang Traditional Arts Theatre, said that Bai Choi folk opera is not only a unique art form of Central Vietnam but also a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity honored by UNESCO. Preserving and promoting Bai Choi art is about preserving the "soul" of national culture, connecting the past with the present.
According to Ms. Huong, "The Story of Thang Bom" is based on a familiar folk tale, reflecting the simple, humorous yet profound philosophy of life of working people. The image of the honest and simple Bom, though poor, is rich in kindness, sincerity, and humanity, and has become ingrained in the memories of many generations of Vietnamese people as a beautiful symbol of human compassion and goodness.
"The performance not only brings refreshing laughter but also conveys a lesson about gratitude and the true values in life that people sometimes easily forget amidst the temptations of materialism," Ms. Huong shared.

The leaders of the Da Nang Traditional Arts Theatre emphasized that traditional art is not just about dances, songs, or ancient stories, but also a cultural flow passed down through many generations. Preserving and promoting the value of traditional art in contemporary life is a journey that requires perseverance, dedication, and love for the profession from the team of artists.
To complete the performance, the entire cast and crew of the theater diligently rehearsed under the guidance of director People's Artist Trung Kien, with the participation of musician Trong Dai in the role of music composer .
Through this work, the production team hopes to recreate the core values of Bài Chòi folk opera, while simultaneously conveying humanistic messages about love, the meaning of life, and the beauty of the Vietnamese soul.
"We hope that this performance will not only be a showcase but will also become a bridge to bring the art of Bài Chòi folk opera closer to the public, especially young people, so that traditional cultural values can continue to spread and endure over time," Ms. Huong expressed.

The performance received attention and guidance from the Da Nang City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, along with the cooperation of professional units, senior artists, and the support of audiences who love traditional art.
"The Story of Thang Bom" was written by Thien An and adapted into a Bai Choi folk opera by Anh Nguyen. The performance brings together many prominent names in the field of traditional arts such as People's Artist Trung Kien (director), People's Artist Trong Dai (music), People's Artist Doan Bang (art design), and Meritorious Artist Hoang Kim Ha (costume designer)...
