Within the framework of the HorecFex Vietnam 2025 Technology and Innovation Forum and Exhibition, on the morning of August 27, the workshop "Da Nang, Digital Connection, Enhancing Destination" took place, gathering management agencies, tourism associations, businesses and international OTA platforms.
Breakthrough opportunities from digital connection via OTA
The workshop took place under the permission of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang City, organized by the City Tourism Promotion Center in collaboration with HorecFex Vietnam. The event focused on reviewing the current state of cooperation with OTA platforms, sharing operational experiences and proposing new directions in the digital age.
Attending the event were Mr. Tan Van Vuong - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang , Mr. Cao Tri Dung - Chairman of the City Tourism Association, Mr. Nguyen Duc Quynh - Founder, Chairman of HorecFex Vietnam, along with leaders of branches, departments and OTA businesses such as Agoda, Klook, Traveloka, TikTok, Grab...
In his opening speech, Mr. Tan Van Vuong said that by 2024, the number of searches and bookings for services to Da Nang via OTAs will increase by 30-35%, contributing greatly to attracting international visitors. He emphasized: “To elevate the Da Nang tourism brand, we need the support of travel agencies, hotels, destinations, technology and communication platforms.”
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Tham - Director of Da Nang Tourism Promotion Center also shared: "In the first 7 months of the year, the city welcomed 4.2 million international visitors and 6.5 million domestic visitors. This growth is associated with changes in travel behavior, in which OTA has become an important channel to help Da Nang reach tourists."
Da Nang is currently in the top 10 Asian cities with the most repeat visitors, and ranks 2nd in Booking.com's list of featured destinations.
Collaborative campaigns with OTAs, such as the program to give away 6,000 vouchers with Traveloka, have brought an 861% increase in traffic. Currently, more than 70% of international visitors to Da Nang book services through OTAs.
However, cooperation is still limited: many international OTAs do not have representative offices in Vietnam; data sharing is not open; and many small businesses have not effectively exploited this distribution channel. These are issues that need to be overcome to increase sustainability.
Laying the foundation for strategic cooperation with OTA
To effectively exploit and optimize the OTA channel for Da Nang tourism, the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding between the Da Nang Tourism Promotion Center and OTAs took place, committing to cooperate on three main axes: Diversifying the local product portfolio on platforms other than accommodation and transportation, building a long-term communication plan linked to annual events such as DIFF, Enjoy Da Nang, International Marathon, and implementing creative communication with KOLs, travel bloggers, game shows, vlogs, online series to break through coverage among young customers.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Quynh - Founder of HorecFex Vietnam affirmed: "HorecFex is not only a place to share policies and experiences but also becomes a strategic connection point between management agencies, associations and businesses. The cooperation agreements formed right at the forum open up a new corridor for Da Nang tourism, promote digital transformation and expand the international market."
Along with the signing, the workshop focused on optimal distribution channel solutions, flexible pricing strategies, standardizing service data and building hotel brands right on the OTA platform.
This is a practical solution for small and medium-sized hotels, which rely heavily on reservation management systems, response speed and customer experience.
The public-private dialogue also set out key directions: sharing data while ensuring privacy, coordinating common communications, handling price competition, and improving information security standards.
These orientations are expected to bring cooperation from the level of "short-term campaign" to "long-term strategy", creating a breakthrough for Da Nang tourism in the coming time.
