From early morning, thousands of Dao people inside and outside Tan Phuong commune wore their most beautiful ethnic costumes and gathered at the commune center to attend the activities of the 2nd Red Dao Cultural Festival in 2024.
Mr. Trieu Tien Tien, Vice Chairman of Tan Phuong Commune People's Committee, Deputy Head of the Festival Organizing Committee, said that for the Dao people, this is truly a joy and great pride, because many beautiful traditional cultural features of their people are excerpted such as in the coming-of-age ceremony, fire dancing, Dao ethnic costume performance... to promote and introduce to tourists from near and far.
Nearly a month ago, villagers organized to clean up their houses and village roads and joined the local government in preparing the content and tasks for the festival. "Through this festival, we contribute to preserving and honoring the cultural identity of the Dao ethnic group. At the same time, we promote and introduce to future generations the beliefs, religions and cultures of our ethnic group and contribute to promoting local tourism development."
The 2nd Tan Phuong Dao ethnic cultural festival has many attractive activities such as: Dao herbal bath, visiting, taking photos of the village, landscape, and life of the Tan Phuong Dao people; booth display competition; ethnic costume embroidery competition, ethnic basket weaving, ethnic costume performance and participating in the "Highland Festival Night".
In particular, the festival includes an excerpt from the Red Dao's Coming of Age Ceremony - the ending of a negative relationship and lighting the lamp. This is one of the important parts of the Coming of Age Ceremony of the Dao ethnic community. The excerpt from the fire dance, after being "magically" blessed by a shaman, the men jump into the fire with bare feet, lie on the coals, and pick up hot coals on their bodies... without getting burned, and has the participation of the Dao people in Hoang Su Phi district, Ha Giang province.
Tourist Ngo Thi Minh Thu from Yen Bai city said: "I find the special thing about the festival is that the Dao people's costumes are really beautiful. The combination of colors in a costume has created very pleasing highlights. The fashion style is quite rich, the colors are not monotonous and boring, the combination of many different colors has created brilliant colors on the costumes."
The Dao ethnic cultural festival in Tan Phuong commune, Luc Yen district, Yen Bai province not only contributes to arousing national pride, solidarity, and love for the homeland, but also contributes to preserving, conserving and promoting the cultural identity of local ethnic groups; promoting the connection of tourism tours between communes in the district, between Luc Yen and neighboring areas, creating livelihoods for people, contributing to promoting local socio-economic development.
