Towards the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Japan cooperation relations and to celebrate Vietnam Science and Technology Day, on May 27, the Association of Vietnamese Intellectuals in Japan organized a meeting of 100 outstanding Vietnamese intellectuals in Japan, under the sponsorship of the Embassy, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Planning and Investment .
Attending the meeting were Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Pham Quang Hieu, Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee; Deputy Minister of Science and Technology , Mr. Bui The Duy; Director of the National Innovation Center, Mr. Vu Quoc Huy, and 100 outstanding Vietnamese intellectuals from all over Japan.
Speaking at the meeting, Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu reviewed the milestones and journeys of many generations of Vietnamese people who have chosen Japan as a destination to study, research and develop their careers.
From the Dong Du movement in the early 20th century associated with the name of revolutionary Phan Boi Chau, to the generation of Vietnamese students studying in Japan in the 1960s and 1970s, many of whom achieved success and fame in Japan, such as Professor Tran Van Tho and ventilator inventor Tran Ngoc Phuc, Chairman of Metran Company.
Since 2000, the number of international students in general and the Vietnamese community in particular has continuously increased over the years, currently reaching nearly 500,000 people, becoming the second largest foreign community in Japan.
Among them are many young people, many of whom have studied, researched and worked in Japan for the past 15-20 years, and are now holding important positions in teaching, research and management at prestigious universities and leading Japanese enterprises in many fields such as information technology, electronics-microchips, robotics, agriculture, medicine, economics -law-society-humanities... (many of whom hold positions as Professors, Associate Professors, business managers...).
Together with a force of young intellectuals, start-up entrepreneurs and a large number of enthusiastic international students, they are playing a leading role in the development of the Vietnamese community in Japan, actively contributing to the socio-economic development of Japan, becoming a bridge for friendly cooperation between the two countries.
Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu affirmed that our Party and State always pay special attention and have issued many policies and guidelines for overseas Vietnamese, an inseparable part of the Vietnamese ethnic community; an important resource contributing to the cause of industrialization, modernization of the country and international integration.
Even though they are far away from the country, the success of the Vietnamese community is also the success of Vietnam, contributing to raising Vietnam's position in the international arena.
The Ambassador welcomed and highly appreciated the enthusiasm of the intellectual community, especially the Association of Vietnamese Intellectuals in Japan, the Vietnamese Academic Network in Japan (VANJ), the Vietnamese Professionals Community in Japan (VPJ), the Vietnamese Youth and Student Association in Japan (VYSA) and the Vietnam-Japan Innovation Network (VJOIN) for successfully organizing many events attracting a large number of Vietnamese and Japanese intellectuals and businessmen to participate, such as Vietnam Summit 2019, 2021, VANJ and VJSE Scientific Conferences, etc.
The success of the above events would not be possible without the silent contributions, enthusiasm, and dedication to science and the community of Vietnamese intellectuals in Japan.
Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu hopes that the Association of Vietnamese Intellectuals in Japan and the intellectual community will conduct more and more research, propose and contribute more practical and effective ideas, serving as a bridge to help Vietnam apply advanced Japanese science and technology to solve problems and requirements in the country's socio-economic development.

This is the first meeting event held on a large scale, an opportunity for intellectuals from all over Japan to exchange, connect scientific research networks, update and share information on outstanding activities of the intellectual network in recent times, and discuss future cooperation activities towards forming a dynamic, united Vietnamese intellectual community in Japan that increasingly contributes effectively to scientific and technological activities, national development as well as cooperative relations with Japan./.
