On July 21, M'Drak Medical Center, M'Drak Commune, Dak Lak Province said that in recent days, the commune has continuously recorded many cases of patients hospitalized with digestive disorders, mass diarrhea, suspected of food poisoning .
Previously, at 8:45 p.m. on July 18, the Department of Resuscitation and Emergency, M'Drak Medical Center received 6 patients with digestive disorders. Of the 6 hospitalized patients, 3 patients were related to eating bread at Ms. T's bread shop in Residential Group 7, M'Drak Commune, Dak Lak Province.
On July 19, M'Drak Medical Center continued to record 39 hospitalized patients with similar symptoms, of which 35 patients claimed to have eaten bread at Ms. T's bakery.
According to Dr. Vo Trong Phuc, Deputy Director of M'Drak Medical Center, from the evening of July 18 to the morning of July 21, there were 64 cases of patients showing signs of digestive disorders and diarrhea, of which 38 cases claimed to be related to eating bread at Ms. T's bread shop. Among the hospitalized patients, the youngest patient was 3 years old, the oldest patient was 59 years old. The patients were scattered throughout M'Drak commune.
Doctor Phuc said that immediately after recording the cases of hospitalized patients, M'Drak Medical Center quickly directed the departments to receive patients, examine and treat them in accordance with the procedures and regulations of the Ministry of Health, ensuring medicines, supplies and chemicals for patient treatment, closely monitoring the health status of patients. At the same time, propaganda was carried out to patients and their families not to panic in order to reduce anxiety in the community, encouraging people to feel secure in their treatment.
In addition, M'Drak Medical Center advised the People's Committee of M'Drak commune to establish a surprise inspection team for the street food service business of Ms. T.'s bread in Residential Group 7, M'Drak commune. During the inspection of the bread establishment, the inspection team found that the establishment had a glass cabinet that could protect against flies, dust, rain, and sunlight according to regulations. The food preparation and processing area was kept clean.
Regarding food safety knowledge, the owner of the facility has participated in food safety training. However, the facility has some shortcomings such as not providing the delegation with documents and contracts on the origin and supply of food ingredients for processing and business; not presenting health certificates for those directly involved in the service business. At the time of inspection, the processor did not wear gloves when selling...
In response to the facility's violations, the delegation drew up a record, took samples of packaged food for testing, and requested the facility to temporarily suspend operations until further notice from the People's Committee of M'Drak commune.
According to Dr. Vo Trong Phuc, by the morning of July 21, the health conditions of the patients had stabilized. Five patients were discharged from the hospital on the morning of July 21. The remaining patients will continue to be monitored, treated and discharged in the coming days.
“Because there are 64 cases of patients with symptoms of digestive disorders and diarrhea, M'Drak Medical Center suspects that a seasonal diarrhea outbreak is occurring in the area. Currently, the Center is continuing to monitor the health of the patients and implementing disease prevention and control measures to prevent the spread in the community,” said Dr. Phuc.
