In the first six months of 2025, the total electricity production of the national system (including rooftop solar power) is estimated at 156.4 billion kWh, 3.04% higher than the same period in 2024, reaching 45% of the 2025 plan. The main reason is the lower nationwide temperature compared to the same period, and the demand for electricity did not increase as much as predicted at the beginning of the year. In the first six months, the peak power consumption of the national electricity system reached 51,672 MW, recorded on June 2nd, 5.7% higher than the same period in 2024 (specifically in the North, the peak power consumption increased by 2,632 MW to 26,495 MW).
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in the remaining months of 2025, 11-13 typhoons may appear in the East Sea, of which 5-6 will directly affect the mainland, with a high risk of strong typhoons of level 12 or higher. Therefore, rainfall in July, August, and September is forecast to be approximately at the multi-year average, with the Northern and North Central regions likely to experience some periods of heavy, widespread rain. Consequently, the national power system will basically be able to meet the electricity needs for socio-economic development and the people's needs for most of the year.
In Tuyen Quang province, in order to ensure sufficient electricity supply for production, business, and people's lives during the peak period of 2025 and the 2026-2030 period, the province is currently focusing on directing relevant units to accelerate the implementation of power generation projects such as: the Yen Son Hydropower Project, with a capacity of 90 MW, expected to be completed and operational in 2025; the commencement of construction of the Tuyen Quang Biomass Power Project, with a capacity of 50 MW; and the implementation of procedures for selecting investors and approving investment policies for the Song Lo 9 Hydropower Project, with a capacity of 87 MW, and the Tuyen Quang Expansion Hydropower Project, with a capacity of 120 MW.
