Provincial Road 226 is one of the most seriously eroded roads due to the impact of storm No. 11 with 97 landslides on both positive and negative slopes. As soon as the storm passed, while many places had not yet fully receded, staff from the Binh Gia - Bac Son Branch, Lang Son Traffic Construction and Management Joint Stock Company were present on the route to fix the problem. Although there were only nearly 20 people, the branch worked overtime, mobilizing 2 excavators and 1 bulldozer to handle each landslide point in turn. By the end of October 8, the road had been temporarily repaired, ensuring that vehicles could pass through.
Mr. Be Van Bao, Head of Binh Gia - Bac Son Branch, said: The unit manages National Highway 1B, Provincial Road 226 and Provincial Road 231. Of which, Provincial Road 226 was most severely affected by Storm No. 11. As soon as the storm passed, we mobilized 100% of machinery and human resources on the route. First, we cleared the road, ensuring traffic in at least one direction. For the remaining two routes, the unit also leveled landslides and installed markers, urgently warning of dangerous negative slope landslides.
According to a quick report from the Department of Construction, as of 5:00 p.m. on October 7, there were 16 landslides on national highways; road subsidence and cracks occurred in many places.
In addition, the provincial road system and border patrol roads also recorded a lot of damage. Provincial roads 226, 227, 231... had 89 landslides on the positive slope with a volume of up to nearly 3,600 m³ of earth and rock and 4 landslides on the negative slope. Landslides also occurred at 134 locations on district roads.
Mr. Hoang Viet Dong, Deputy Director of the Department of Construction, said: The Department has directed units to immediately apply remedial measures. For landslides on positive slopes, priority is given to clearing rocks and soil, opening at least one lane for temporary traffic. For dangerous landslides on negative slopes, we build barriers and place warning signs. In particular, we have increased patrols and inspections 24/7 to promptly detect and handle any incidents that arise.
In the localities, coordination work was also vigorously implemented. Mr. Nguyen Quang Hoa, Chairman of the People's Committee of Huu Lien Commune, said: Due to the impact of storm No. 11, Provincial Road 243 passing through the area had 1 landslide and 3 flooding points. On October 7, the commune coordinated with the authorities to clear the route. At the same time, signs were put up, warning ropes were put up, and forces were deployed at 3/3 flooding points, life jackets and life buoys were provided to help people travel safely.
Along with that, the Traffic Police Department, Provincial Police mobilized 100% of its staff on duty, divided into many patrol teams to control key routes and areas. Working teams were present at landslide and flooding hotspots to place warning signs, stretch cordons to cordon off the area, guide traffic to alternative routes, and resolutely not let people enter dangerous areas.
According to the Deputy Director of the Department of Construction, up to this point, road management units have been urgently implementing measures to clear the route as quickly as possible. Only a few routes in the old Huu Lung district are still flooded, making it impossible for vehicles to move to the affected locations. For these routes, the department has directed the units in charge of management to continue monitoring and quickly clear the route as soon as the water recedes.
