London Symphony Orchestra returns to Hanoi with conductor Antonio Pappano

The prestigious and classy orchestra - London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) with conductor Antonio Pappano performed on 2 nights of October 10-11 at Ho Guom Theater, in the international art event Vietnam Airlines Classic - Hanoi Concert 2025 (VACC 2025). The proceeds from ticket sales to the show were donated by the Organizing Committee to support people affected by storms and floods.

The above information was announced by the VACC Organizing Committee at a meeting with artists and the press on October 10 at Hoan Kiem Theater.

VACC is an annual music event organized by the Hanoi People's Committee and Vietnam Airlines . This is not only an artistic gathering, but also a testament to the connection between Vietnam and the world's cultural quintessence, an event that brings the ultimate musical experience to the public, while contributing to nurturing the young generation, affirming Hanoi as an international cultural rendezvous. 2025 is the 5th concert season and is a program in the "Touching Autumn Hanoi" series of activities. In particular, the performance on the evening of October 11 will be broadcast live on a large screen in the area of ​​​​the Suicide Monument, Hoan Kiem Lake walking street, so that people and tourists can enjoy the symphony atmosphere right in the heart of the city, bringing classical music closer to the public.

It is known that 2025 is the fourth time LSO returns to Hanoi within the framework of VACC. In the symphony world, LSO is considered one of the most prestigious and influential orchestras. This orchestra's return to Hanoi not only affirms the prestige of the event but also shows the increasingly elevated position of Vietnam on the global classical music map. In particular, in VACC 2025, the orchestra will perform under the command of Antonio Pappano - a famous conductor with a powerful conducting style, who has left his mark on many major stages in London, Rome or New York. The combination of LSO and Pappano is expected to bring impressive performances, where the quintessence of world music blends with the space of the capital.

Mr. Tran Hai Dang, artistic advisor of Ho Guom Theater, said that in preparation for the event, since 2024, LSO has conducted a survey at the theater and highly appreciated this modern construction with international standard acoustic design. Organizing VACC at Ho Guom Theater contributes to raising the performance quality of an international-class art event right in the center of Hanoi .

Musician Quoc Trung, General Director of VACC 2025, also said that this year's program will open with the Vietnamese National Anthem - "Marching Song" by musician Van Cao (arranged by musician Luu Quang Minh). This is a solemn moment, demonstrating the connection between international classical music and national pride.

In the program, LSO will perform Beethoven's Symphony No. 5, Op. 67 - a work often called "The Symphony of Fate", very familiar to Vietnamese music lovers. The audience will also have the opportunity to enjoy Shostakovich's Symphony No. 10, Op. 93 - a work that makes a strong impression with its blend of epic quality, satirical tone and philosophical depth, reflecting the ups and downs of history and human destiny. According to musician Quoc Trung, choosing to perform the above two works demonstrates the inner strength of the orchestra. The combination of Beethoven - Shostakovich creates a dramatic musical "dialogue", where a proud spirit meets a sharp, multi-layered tone. This promises to be an emotional artistic highlight for the capital's audience this fall.

In addition to its artistic value, VACC 2025 also has special cultural significance as it takes place on the occasion of the 71st anniversary of the Capital Liberation Day (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2025). The opening with the Vietnamese National Anthem performed by LSO has become a "trademark" of VACC, creating a solemn moment, evoking national pride and connecting history with contemporary art.

In parallel with the two main concerts, LSO continues to organize community activities within the framework of the LSO Discovery project. The highlight is the intensive training program for the Vietnam Youth Orchestra (VYO). In particular, at 5:00 p.m. on October 12 at the Hanoi Opera House, the public will enjoy a report performance with the participation of 70 young VYO musicians and 9 LSO artists. This is an opportunity for the young generation to access the quintessence of classical music, while affirming the potential of Vietnamese talents.
