Ms. Vu Thi Hang boldly brought Nhat Tan peach varieties to plant in Buon Ho town ( Dak Lak province). Not only did she increase her income, she also contributed to building the Buon Ho peach blossom brand, turning this place into the brilliant Tet peach capital of the Central Highlands.
The pioneer woman who brought Nhat Tan peach blossoms to bloom in the Central Highlands
Peach blossoms in Buon Ho (Dak Lak) are always associated with Ms. Vu Thi Hang, the farmer who brings spring colors from the North to the Central Highlands.
Ms. Hang left her hometown Ninh Binh in 2004 to start a business in Buon Ho. When she returned home for Tet, the image of Nhat Tan peach blossoms blooming in the warm spring atmosphere gave her the idea to bring that peach variety back to plant in the Central Highlands.
Ms. Vu Thi Hang, the pioneer who brought Nhat Tan peach blossom variety to plant in Buon Ho town, Dak Lak province.
After 4 years of research and experience, Ms. Hang decided to order 400 Nhat Tan peach seedlings from Hanoi and plant them on her family's land right next to Highway 14.
At first, Ms. Hang was very worried about Dak Lak's harsh climate. However, surprisingly, the peach trees not only grew well but also bloomed brilliantly.
"In the first year, my peach garden attracted many people to visit, take pictures and buy flowers for Tet. It was this support that gave me the confidence to expand the peach growing area and invest in this model," Ms. Hang shared.
From the initial 400 trees, Ms. Hang's peach garden now has more than 5,000 trees with diverse varieties such as white peach, pale peach, and blue peach. The peach garden not only supplies peaches to local people but also exports them to places such as Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho, Long An, Da Nang and neighboring countries.
To meet the diverse needs of customers, Ms. Hang personally shapes peach trees into beautiful shapes such as phu the, tam da, long phuong, ngu phuc... Creating shapes requires meticulousness, skill and understanding of the tree's characteristics.
Ancient, beautiful peach trees can cost over 10 million VND/tree.
"Peach trees need to be carefully cared for, each movement must be gentle to avoid breaking branches or losing buds. We also have to closely monitor them every day to detect pests in time. In particular, about 30-45 days before Tet, I pluck leaves and adjust according to the weather so that the flowers bloom on time," said Ms. Hang.
Not only does it help many households improve their income, the largest peach blossom village in Dak Lak province has also become an attractive destination for tourists.
According to Ms. Hang, after deducting expenses, each year her family earns a profit of about 300-400 million VND from the peach garden.
Thanks to that, the family's life has improved significantly. At the same time, Ms. Hang also provides technical support to other households in the area, helping them replicate this model.
Buon Ho peach blossom festival brings spring colors far and wide
In 2023, peach growers in Buon Ho joined together to establish the Doan Ket Peach Blossom Cooperative with a total area of more than 17 hectares, including many unique peach varieties.
The product "Buon Ho peach blossom tree" has been recognized as a 3-star OCOP and is striving to achieve a 4-star rating to expand the export market.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Thang, Director of the Cooperative, a contract has been signed to invite leading artisans in Hanoi to Buon Ho to help cooperative members take care of and perfect the ancient peach blossom trees to meet export standards.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thang, Director of the Cooperative, shared: "Peach trees have a strong vitality. Although they seem austere on normal days, during Tet, the flowers bloom brilliantly, becoming a symbol of spring.
Previously, people in the Central Highlands had to buy peach trees from the northern provinces at high costs. Now, thanks to peach gardens in Buon Ho, they can both save money and own beautiful peach trees with strong local characteristics."
In particular, many ancient peach trees are meticulously shaped by artisans, meeting export standards. This not only increases economic value but also brings Buon Ho peach blossoms far and wide, becoming a symbol of spring for the entire region.
Anticipating that the demand for peach blossoms for Tet 2025 will increase sharply, Mr. Thang's family decided to plant 400 more peach trees of various types, bringing the total number of trees in the garden to 1,700. Up to now, about 20% of the peach trees in the garden have been ordered by traders.
According to the reporter's records, the price of peach blossoms in gardens in Buon Ho town ranges from 250,000 VND/tree, while old, beautiful peach trees can reach over 10 million VND/tree.
The "Peach Blossom Spring Festival At Ty 2025" will be held on January 25.
Mr. Dinh Quoc Hung, Chairman of Thong Nhat Ward People's Committee, said that peach blossoms were introduced to the locality about 15 years ago. Most of the peach growers here are farmers from Ninh Binh, of which Ms. Vu Thi Hang is the pioneer in bringing Nhat Tan peach variety to grow.
The Chairman of Thong Nhat Ward People's Committee also informed that thanks to the economic efficiency of Ms. Hang's model, many other households have boldly tried, but not everyone has achieved the expected results.
Therefore, local authorities recommend that people should not expand the area to avoid oversupply.
Furthermore, the weather in Dak Lak is not always favorable, leading to many plants growing slowly, having sparse flowers, and even blooming before Tet if not properly cared for.
According to Ms. H'Philip Niê Kđăm, Deputy Head of the Economic Department of Buôn Hồ town, the product "Buôn Hồ peach blossom tree" achieved 3-star OCOP from October 2023 and is striving to reach 4 stars, aiming for export.
In order to promote the Buon Ho peach blossom brand, the Town People's Committee plans to organize the "Peach Blossom Spring At Ty 2025" festival on January 25. The event promises to bring a vibrant festival space, honor the cultural beauty associated with peach blossoms and attract a large number of visitors and tourists.
