"Although his health is not good, director Long Van still has many plans for movies. A year ago, he cherished making a movie about Uncle Ho. Mr. Long Van is a passionate person about his work. In recent months, he has been so weak that he has been bedridden. Mrs. Kim Cuong saw that he was tired so she limited people from visiting him," screenwriter Trinh Thanh Nha shared.

She added that when she heard the news of director Long Van's death, she was stunned for a moment before she could call the director's wife.

"Hearing Kim Cuong cry broke my heart. Long Van had been sick for a long time, and I had visited him at home a couple of times. When I heard he was hospitalized, I kept promising to visit him, but I called her several times without success, so I didn't know where to go to visit her. Now I hear he's gone," she said.

Screenwriter Trinh Thanh Nha added that her husband and director Long Van are similar in their dedication. "So, will they be close forever?", she emotionally shared.

Director Long Van was born in 1936 in Hanoi, then he and his family followed the resistance to Thai Nguyen .

At the age of 14, director Long Van was sent to Nanning, China to study. In 1955, he graduated from the teacher training college and worked as a teacher until later switching to cinema.

His first film as a director was The Call Forward in 1979, written by writer Phu Thang, which won an award at the Moscow International Film Festival, followed by the films The Meeting Place of Love and For All Tomorrow.

However, it was not until Saigon Special Forces - the first color film of Vietnamese cinema, released in 1985, consisting of 4 episodes named respectively Diem Hen, Tinh Lang, Con Sam, Tra Trai Danh Cho Em - that the name Long Van became known to everyone.

After Saigon Special Forces , director Long Van also made more films See You Again Saigon, Liberation of Saigon...
