This year, peach blossom branches and kumquat trees priced under 200,000 VND continue to be in high demand amidst consumers tightening their Tet (Lunar New Year) shopping.

According to a survey by VnExpress at many Tet flower markets in Tay Ho, Cau Giay, and Ha Dong districts, the prices of peach blossom branches and kumquat trees are "softer" than in previous years. At the same time, most consumers tend to choose smaller, cheaper trees instead of those costing several million dong as in previous years.

Ms. Nguyen Ngoc, a small trader specializing in selling peach blossom branches in La Ca village, near Aeon Mall, Duong Noi ward, Ha Dong district, said that from February 2nd (the 23rd day of the 12th lunar month) until now, on peak days she has sold 400-500 mini peach blossom branches (both wholesale and retail), but mostly at prices ranging from 50,000 to 100,000 VND.

This year, like many other small traders in the area, she proactively chose affordable peach blossom branches from the gardens, noticing the trend of customers tightening their spending from last year. "Small peach blossom branches, under 200,000 VND, are very popular because they can be placed on the altar or put in a vase to enjoy throughout the Tet holiday. But most importantly, the price is affordable as people increasingly want to celebrate Tet in a simpler way," Ms. Ngoc said.

Mr. Duong Phuc, the owner of a stall specializing in selling peach blossom branches located a few dozen meters away, also shared that since the beginning of the week, he has been offering customers the most competitive prices possible to make a sale, instead of overcharging by several hundred thousand dong per branch as before.

A branch of apricot blossoms, about 1 to 1.2 meters long, with many flowers and buds, could cost between 500,000 and 700,000 VND last year, but this year Mr. Phuc is only selling it for around 300,000 to 400,000 VND. " The economy is difficult, so the closer it gets to Tet, the more we have to try to sell at a lower price to compensate for the lower volume," Mr. Phuc shared. This year, he also didn't import many large branches costing millions of VND because he was worried about unsold stock.

Not only peach blossom branches, but also mini kumquat trees priced under 200,000 VND each are selling quite well these days. On streets like To Hieu (Ha Dong), Lang, Hoang Quoc Viet (Cau Giay), or Hang Luoc flower market (Hoan Kiem), mini kumquat trees priced from 100,000 VND to 150,000 VND (including the pot) are also widely displayed for sale.

Many customers also feel that buying plants for Tet this year is much easier than in previous years. Mr. Hoang Viet, who lives in an apartment building in Dai Mo ward, Nam Tu Liem district, said that this year, with only 350,000 VND, he could comfortably buy peach blossom branches and kumquat trees to display in his living room.

Meanwhile, Ms. Ngoc Linh, residing in Kim Ma ward, Ba Dinh district, recently rented a bonsai peach tree to display for 10 days during Tet (Lunar New Year) for only 500,000 VND (including 100,000 VND for transportation). According to Ms. Linh, a few years ago, renting such a tree would have cost at least 1 million VND.

From February 5th (26th of the lunar calendar), to sell their goods faster, many small traders have started putting up signs advertising discounts and clearing out their stock. On Le Van Luong street, some stalls selling kumquat trees have put up signs advertising clearance sales of 100,000 or 120,000 VND. In previous Tet holidays, the earliest these vendors would start selling off their stock at discounted prices to clear out their inventory was usually on the morning of the 29th of the lunar calendar.
