(HNMO) - In May 2023, Red Cross chapters at all levels nationwide aim to provide assistance to at least 100,000 humanitarian addresses. This information was emphasized by the Vietnam Red Cross at a meeting with press representatives on April 19 to inform about Humanitarian Month 2023 (taking place from May 1 to 31).
Speaking to press representatives, President of the Vietnam Red Cross Society Bui Thi Hoa said that humanitarian aid activities take place regularly and continuously, but are most concentrated in May every year, a period chosen as Humanitarian Month.
In 2023, the Humanitarian Month has the theme: "From the heart of each of us - Joining hands to build a compassionate community". Highlighting this theme, the Red Cross at all levels from the central to the grassroots level organizes the Humanitarian Month with many practical and meaningful activities, focusing on the subjects in need of assistance. The goal in May 2023 is for the entire association to mobilize resources worth at least 400 billion VND to support at least 100,000 humanitarian addresses.
To achieve the above objectives, provincial and municipal Red Cross associations are responsible for mobilizing and connecting to build and repair 63 "Clean Kitchen - Delicious Rice" points in kindergartens and primary schools with especially difficult conditions, with a minimum value of 150 million VND/point; at the same time, support the construction and repair of at least 115 houses, and support the livelihoods of 200 poor and disadvantaged fishing households. In addition, provincial and municipal Red Cross associations need to build a humanitarian fund of at least 100 million VND; advise Party committees and authorities to establish the Red Cross Operation Fund...
The highlight of the series of events responding to the Humanitarian Month 2023 is the Launching Ceremony of the Humanitarian Month organized by the Vietnam Red Cross Society in coordination with the People's Committee of Can Tho City, scheduled to take place on the morning of April 23 at Can Tho University and broadcast live on VTV8 (Vietnam Television). At this event, the Vietnam Red Cross Society will launch the Movement "Good people, Good deeds - joining hands to build a compassionate community" with the aim of spreading compassion, encouraging kind actions, contributing to building a cultural lifestyle, promoting humanitarian values in the community...
Implementing the direction of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, up to now, 63/63 provinces and cities have developed plans to implement Humanitarian Month 2023. Accordingly, in each province and city, the Red Cross Society will carry out at least one humanitarian project or work...
The Humanitarian Month has been implemented by the Vietnam Red Cross since 2018. After 5 years of launching, the whole country has had more than 4.3 million poor people and people in difficult circumstances receiving assistance during the Humanitarian Month, with the total value of resources reaching more than 2,052 billion VND. Resources to support people in difficulty during the Humanitarian Month are 144% compared to the average of other months of the year.
