From traditional pastels to bold cherry reds, see the colors that dominated the Spring/Summer 2024 runways.
Gray coal
Grey is a wardrobe staple for many year-round, and darker shades of charcoal have been prominent on the runways this season. However, brands have mixed it up by incorporating the colour beyond the usual suiting. Fendi has taken the colour to a formal setting with a halter-neck midi dress, while other brands have opted for unique cuts. Charcoal is a very versatile shade and can be worn with a variety of looks.
Dark blue
While sea-inspired aesthetics like mermaids and beaches may continue to resonate with fashion enthusiasts, designers have embraced royal blue for Spring/Summer 2024. With such a rich hue dominating the look, designers are offsetting it with other shades, mostly opting to pair it with light blue denim like Loewe or a pair of off-white trousers like Burberry.
Crushed apricots
Designers were eyeing the shade even before it was announced by Pantone as the 2024 Color of the Year, and amid the neutral and fun tones that have been flooding the runways this season, the warm hue is a charming change of pace. Sportmax showcased the hue in a sculptural column dress, while Marni designed a flowy maxi dress in a bold hue, opting to forgo the softer nature of the apricot hue.
Fifty Shades of Green
Shades of green were all over the runways this fashion month, with brands using the color in color-blocking and monochrome moments. On the runway at Ferragamo, designers embraced the former trend by opting for a dark green leather suit, while Balmain opted for a more vibrant green suit paired with an equally eye-catching pink dress.
Deep cherry red
Dark red is always sleek and sexy, and this year it was undoubtedly a hot color on the runways. Gucci embraced the sensuality of the hue, opting for a minimalist bustier and a midriff-baring pencil skirt, while Hermès opted for a more traditionally feminine, yet modest look with an ankle-length midi skirt.
Metal mania
Metallics were seen all over the runways, from Naomi Campbell's shiny silver Alexander McQueen look to the iconic liquid gold Ralph Lauren look Christy Turlington modeled on the runway. Metallics are often used for finishing touches—this year was no exception—but designers took the color trend this season to the next level by using it throughout their looks, effortlessly finding the right balance between bold and subtle.
Light blue
On the opposite end of the spectrum from the blues that dominated the runways this season is pastel blue, a classic, serene shade of spring. The colour is interpreted in a variety of ways, from heavier knits like those seen on Fendi to lighter, more fluid pieces like Prada. Effortlessly chic and incredibly versatile, pastel blue is the perfect shade to add to your wardrobe without being too bold or overbearing.
Light yellow
Like other classic spring colors such as pastel blue, pale yellow appeared prominently on the Spring/Summer 2024 runways. It appeared in collections from brands such as Loewe, Louis Vuitton and Loro Piana, among others, often in soft, silky fabrics and soft, lustrous materials, exuding all the grace and elegance that goes with the unique color.
Lilac
A playful twist on the richness that purple often possesses, mauve is making a comeback this spring and summer. Coach wore the floral hue with a youthful mini dress, worthy of an evening out. Rabanne, on the other hand, took a different approach, looking to modern-day gladiators with a mesh hoodie and mauve parachute pants. Easily translated across different forms and aesthetics, mauve is a light, playful shade to invest in during the spring and summer months.
White wedding
As a classic neutral, white is a colour that never goes out of style, and designers didn't shy away from incorporating bright shades into their collections this season. Instead of opting for cream or off-white, brands opted for the traditional white for weddings - sans the wedding dress, of course. Take a look from Khaite and wear the colour over a minimalist blazer, or keep it classic with a dress like Valentino's form-fitting maxi dress.
Brown chocolate
In contrast to the many soft pastels often seen on the Spring/Summer 2024 runways, chocolate brown has made a name for itself this season as a trendy non-traditional Spring/Summer color thanks to brands like Loewe, Hermes, Saint Laurent and Tom Ford. This brown is perfect for a monochromatic moment and can be used on a variety of outfits, be it trousers, leather or blazers.
Barbie Pink
Even months after its release, the Barbie movie and its influence have proven that pink is a hot topic right now. While Barbie Pink may not have been a big hit on the runway this season, other shades of pink still dominate. Bottega Veneta opted for a muted tone paired with a flowy midi dress, while Chanel opted for a slightly brighter but still subtle shade, posing in an elegant high-low mini dress.
