Previously, when buying goods, Ms. Pham Thi Hien, Ngo Quyen ward (Vinh Yen) had the habit of buying whatever was convenient, but now her thinking has changed after cases of counterfeit goods were discovered and handled by authorities.
Instead of easily buying sugar packets, MSG, fish sauce, cooking oil, etc. at the alley entrance or small grocery stores in the residential area, Ms. Hien now chooses to shop for products at Winmart, Go! or Coopmart supermarkets. Some fresh food items such as green vegetables, pork, chicken, eggs, tofu, etc. are also purchased by Ms. Hien at retail chains.
Ms. Pham Thi Hien shared: “Recently, many brands such as Hiup milk, Omega 3-6-9 functional foods, Nysta, fake D-Vitum... have been handled by the authorities, showing that poor quality products are not only numerous in quantity and variety but also sophisticatedly produced, making it difficult for consumers to distinguish. The production and business activities of these subjects do not show any signs of being secretive but are open, under the guise of large enterprises, causing consumers to fall into a matrix of goods.”
Ms. Hien's thoughts are similar to the mood of many consumers today, especially in the context that localities have just implemented a peak of the fight to prevent and repel smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and infringement of intellectual property rights.
According to data from the National Steering Committee 389, in the peak month alone, units and localities arrested and handled nearly 11,000 cases of smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods, an increase of 79.34% compared to the previous peak month. In particular, many serious and especially serious cases of counterfeit goods trading, with signs of counterfeiting famous brands or trading in prohibited goods were continuously handled and cracked down on...
Mr. Pham Van Trung, Tich Son ward (Vinh Yen) said: “In the face of the sweep of the functional forces, counterfeit goods such as candy, functional foods, etc. are secretly dumped by traders in tons like a landfill, showing the seriousness of the current counterfeit goods problem. Therefore, during this time, my family often goes to supermarkets to shop to ensure the quality of goods and food.”
The strong and decisive intervention of the authorities in the fight against counterfeit goods has contributed to improving the position of retail businesses. In fact, to have a place on the shelves of supermarkets and retail chains, products of domestic and foreign brands have been strictly selected by businesses, not to mention that the production facilities must provide full invoices and documents proving their origin.
According to the feedback from sales staff of Go!, Coopmart supermarkets or Winmart retail stores, people's purchasing power during this time has increased by 5-10%. This shows that people's consumption trends have changed towards products with brands and clear origins. Grasping people's consumption needs, businesses have also made efforts to respond by implementing special incentive and discount programs to increase sales.
A representative of Go! Vinh Phuc supermarket said: “Currently, 80-90% of the products in the supermarket are domestic goods, with full invoices and documents proving their origin, from household appliances, essential goods to processed foods. To stimulate consumption, on weekends, Go! Vinh Phuc implements many promotional programs to stimulate demand for Vietnamese goods for many items, from fresh food, dried food, confectionery, beverages, cosmetics, etc. In particular, the fresh food industry is Vietnamese goods, strictly controlled in terms of origin, ensuring food safety and hygiene quality”.
In recent years, supermarkets and convenience stores have tended to compete strongly in the market, and now they are more dominant and have an advantage in the context of counterfeit goods being swept away by the authorities. Shopping at supermarkets, goods are not only abundant and diverse in types and designs, but consumers also enjoy many attractive promotions and discounts along with attentive and enthusiastic service and staff.
On the other hand, when shopping at supermarkets, people feel free and comfortable when choosing, not afraid of buying "badly" when encountering vendors who intentionally "raise" prices to sell at high prices. Above all, the quality of goods and products are provided by reputable, branded businesses.
The sale of counterfeit and poor quality goods on the market not only causes direct damage to the economy but also affects consumers and causes tax losses for the state.
For manufacturing enterprises, this problem is a barrier in the effort to find new markets as well as develop their brands. Along with the drastic participation of the authorities, each citizen should be a smart consumer, knowing how to distinguish, choose and use branded goods with clear origins to protect the health of themselves and their loved ones. At the same time, manufacturing enterprises also need to be creative in protecting their brands to reduce risks and economic losses for themselves...
