Forum scene

The forum was attended by Politburo member, Head of the Central Economic Commission Tran Tuan Anh; Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Phan Thi Thang; Secretary of Can Tho City Party Committee Nguyen Van Hieu; Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Tran Viet Truong; representatives of leaders of ministries, branches and localities. The Mekong Delta contributes about 50% of rice output, 95% of rice exports, 65% of aquaculture output, 60% of fish exports and 70% of fruits nationwide. The potential and demand for logistics services in the region are huge, but currently the infrastructure and capacity of the logistics service industry in the region are still limited, not contributing much to the socio -economic development of the region.

Politburo member and Head of the Central Economic Commission Tran Tuan Anh said that Vietnam's logistics industry has made strong developments in recent times, making important contributions to economic growth and job creation. Enterprises in the logistics industry are increasing in number and expanding in scale, improving their capacity in management and operation. By the end of 2021, there were nearly 35,000 enterprises with a total of 563,354 employees; FDI attraction in the logistics sector has increased sharply...

In 2023, according to the World Bank's ranking, Vietnam's Logistics Performance Index (LPI) ranked 43rd out of 139 ranked economies, a significant improvement compared to 53rd in 2010. In the region, Vietnam is in the top 5, equal in rank with the Philippines and behind Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand.

Logistics costs in Vietnam are much higher than the general average.

Currently, according to calculations by the Vietnam Logistics Services Association, Vietnam's logistics costs average 16.8% -17% of GDP, much higher than the world average of 10.6%. At the forum, delegates said that digital transformation in logistics helps reduce logistics costs, improve service quality and customer experience, and increase connectivity within the organization and between parties in the supply chain. Thereby improving performance, enhancing the competitiveness of businesses in particular, the logistics service industry and the entire economy in general. Currently, some provinces and cities such as Can Tho, Dong Thap, Vinh Long, etc. focus on digital transformation to promote logistics development and clear the flow of goods for agricultural products in the Mekong Delta.
