For Vietnamese enterprises to master semiconductor technology

NDO - How can Resolution 57-NQ/TW be an acceleration to help Vietnam's semiconductor industry master core technology? That question was discussed in detail in the program "Exchange and sharing of experiences between the world's leading technology corporations and Vietnamese executives in the field of core technology 4.0", held on March 13 in Ho Chi Minh City.

This is a component program within the framework of the "Conference on Advanced Assembly, Testing, and Packaging Technology: Opportunities for Vietnam" co-organized by Ho Chi Minh City National University and CT Group Corporation with the participation of many technology corporations and international universities, leaders of departments, sectors, localities... and universities, semiconductor experts, and business leaders at home and abroad.

At the event, experts and executives analyzed the opportunities and benefits of new semiconductor technology for Vietnam in the 4.0 Industrial Revolution. The semiconductor industry is playing a very important role in many high-tech fields.

“A thriving semiconductor industry will benefit Vietnam through economic growth, job creation, technological advancement and increased global competitiveness, making it a key driver of the country’s prosperity and innovation,” said Vinh Nguyen, former Vice President of ECI Technology.

Especially in the context of Vietnam's semiconductor technology under the light of Resolution 57-NQ/TW, striving to master technology with international support. On December 22, 2024, General Secretary To Lam signed and issued Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation.

Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW has created a strong wave, promoting the development of the semiconductor industry, and is a driving force for domestic enterprises to invest and develop.

Experts, representatives of schools and businesses shared enthusiastically at the discussion session.

Mr. Wan Azmi, CT Semiconductor's Operations Director, said: "As a member company of CT Group, CT Semiconductor is a company specializing in ATP (Semiconductor Assembly-Test-Packaging), the first Vietnamese brand in this field. CT Semiconductor is determined to become a Vietnamese corporation that truly masters semiconductor technology."

Discussing development strategies, research programs, education, and international cooperation opportunities, experts and speakers shared many important topics and contents at the Workshop such as: smart manufacturing in OSAT companies and benefits for Vietnam; R&D (research and development) and process development strategies; semiconductor research/education programs at international universities and Vietnamese student exchange programs, etc.

Regarding the R&D strategy and process development, Dr. Changhang Kim, Research Professor at Hanyang University, shared that to position Vietnam as a leader in the semiconductor field, businesses, universities and the Government need to coordinate closely. Companies need to upgrade OSAT (off-site semiconductor assembly and testing) capabilities, invest in AI-based process development and take the lead in applying 3D IC and chiplet packaging technologies. Universities should focus on developing advanced packaging curricula, conducting breakthrough research on new materials and packaging processes, and building strong collaboration with businesses.

“Government initiatives and industry-academia partnerships will play an important role in promoting the development of the semiconductor packaging sector in Vietnam, addressing both current challenges and future opportunities,” Dr. Changhang Kim emphasized.

At the in-depth discussion session, representatives from major universities such as Inha University, Hanyang University (Korea)... shared about educational cooperation programs, training high-quality human resources in the semiconductor industry. Along with that, leading enterprises such as AMKOR, LAM Research, WooWon Technology, SPOT, WiV, Aemulus... shared ideas and lessons on developing domestic enterprises' internal technological capacity through research, education and international cooperation programs in the semiconductor industry.

The event marks an important step in defining a long-term development strategy for the OSAT industry in Vietnam. CT Group is committed to continuing to invest in human resource training, scientific research and expanding cooperation with domestic and foreign partners.

At the same time, the workshop also emphasized highly practical solutions for Resolution 57 to promote the OSAT industry, helping Vietnam gradually affirm its position in the global semiconductor supply chain. CT Semiconductor is a pilot model of Vietnamese brands in the global semiconductor industry.
