Proposing Siemens to promote cooperation with Vietnam in high-tech fields

On the afternoon of February 26, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Mr. Roland Busch, President and CEO of Siemens Group (Germany), who is visiting and working in Vietnam.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that Vietnam always attaches importance to deepening relations with Germany in all fields; he was pleased to see that, after nearly 50 years of establishing diplomatic relations and more than 10 years of establishing the Strategic Partnership, the Vietnam - Germany relationship has been continuously consolidated, nurtured and developed increasingly well in all fields, in which the pillar of trade - investment cooperation with Germany is highly valued; especially after the successful visit to Vietnam by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in January 2024. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated and congratulated Siemens on its business performance in the world in general and in Vietnam in particular, especially projects in the fields of electricity - gas, mechanical engineering, energy infrastructure development and industrial automation, and railway development. To contribute to the continued implementation of agreements between the two countries' senior leaders, the Prime Minister suggested that Siemens promote cooperation with Vietnam in the fields of high technology, promoting innovation; green transformation cooperation, developing the renewable energy industry, especially wind turbine production; cooperation in the field of transportation (such as electric vehicle production, etc.); digital transformation cooperation, building a Siemens research and development center in Vietnam, cooperation with the National Innovation Center, etc.; and expanding cooperation with Vietnamese technology enterprises.

Pleased with the results of Siemens' cooperation with Vietnam in transportation projects, the Prime Minister asked Siemens to consider participating in a number of bidding packages for the construction of urban railway lines in Vietnam such as the Metro Line 2 project in Ho Chi Minh City; transfer technology, develop the railway industry (such as digging metro tunnels).

The Prime Minister suggested that Siemens transfer technology as widely as possible, promote cooperation in human resource training, support in improving management capacity, and build modern institutions in the above fields. The Prime Minister said that with the spirit of harmonious benefits and shared risks, Vietnam continues to perfect its institutional and policy systems to improve the investment and business environment in an increasingly favorable, equal, safe, stable, and transparent manner; and commits to creating all favorable conditions for businesses, including German businesses like Siemens, to invest and do business in Vietnam in the long term, stably, and with increasing efficiency. Thanking Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh for taking the time to meet him, Siemens Group Chairman Roland Busch highly appreciated the great potential for cooperation between Vietnam and Germany in general and with Siemens in particular. He said that Vietnam has had a very successful transition process, with great development potential, especially with a population of 100 million people and a young, trained workforce. This is an important foundation to promote cooperation between Vietnam and Germany. He also highly appreciated Vietnam's goals in green transformation, climate change response, development of high-tech industries, especially semiconductors, development of transport infrastructure systems, especially railways. He said Siemens is actively cooperating and wishes to continue expanding cooperation, investment and business in the fields and contents mentioned by the Prime Minister such as high technology, digital transformation, green transformation, building modern, high-speed transport systems, etc., including cooperation in human resource training, supporting Vietnamese enterprises to expand globally.

Siemens is a large German corporation with extensive experience and advanced solutions in the fields of industry, healthcare, transportation and smart infrastructure development. The Group has 320,000 employees and global revenue of 78 billion euros in 2023. In Vietnam, Siemens established a representative office in 1993, with 3 branches in Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City and a factory in Binh Duong. Siemens cooperates with Vietnam in many fields, especially renewable energy and transportation. Siemens has participated in a solar power project estimated to contribute 1 billion kWh of electricity to the country's power system each year; is a leading provider of efficient power transmission solutions, has provided protection and automation equipment and solutions for hundreds of 110 kV-220 kV substations and dozens of 550 kV substations in Vietnam; promoting automation and digitalization in Vietnam such as helping Tan Cang Saigon maximize productivity, reduce train clearance time... Regarding transportation cooperation, Siemens has had cooperation projects with Vietnam such as the project to upgrade and modernize the Vinh Railway Signaling System, the project to design and supply 16 diesel locomotives for Vietnam Railways Corporation; the Noi Bai Airport Road Lighting System project; the project to supply automatic cargo handling system for Tan Son Nhat Airport, the Ho Chi Minh City Metro Line project. In the field of energy, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Siemens signed an MOU on infrastructure development in the fields of electricity and renewable energy.
