Yesterday afternoon, July 21, the online television consultation program with the theme "School announces floor scores, what are the options for candidates (TS)?", was broadcast online on thanhnien.vn , Facebook fanpage, YouTube channel, and TikTok of Thanh Nien Newspaper. The program provided candidates with important information about enrollment in health and pedagogy before the Ministry of Education and Training announced the floor scores for admission to these two majors, expected today.
The guests participating in the consultation shared a lot of information about the admission process for health and education majors in the 2025 enrollment period.

What is a safe score when applying for health majors?
Analyzing the score distribution of the combinations, Dr. Vo Thanh Hai, Permanent Deputy Director of Duy Tan University, commented: "University admissions have 5 traditional combinations: A00, A01, B00, C00 and D01. This year's score distribution is relatively low compared to 2024. Math is the main subject of the admission combinations related to the health sciences block, with scores below 5 reaching more than 50%, so the average score distribution of the combinations of math, chemistry, biology or math, physics, chemistry is lower than last year. However, the number of candidates with a total score of 3 subjects of 27 or higher is high, not lower than in 2024".
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoang Nga, in charge of communications at Nguyen Tat Thanh University, also said that low scores will directly affect traditional subject combinations such as B00 (math, chemistry, biology) for the health sector and A00 (math, physics, chemistry), C00 (literature, history, geography), D01 (math, literature, English) for the pedagogy sector. In particular, the B00 group has a lower score range than other subject combinations, which will also change the benchmark scores of majors that consider this group.
Based on the actual score distribution, experts believe that this year the competition for candidates with scores of 27 and above and 18-22 points is very high. However, Master Nguyen Tran Ngoc Phuong, Director of the Marketing and Brand Development Center of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, said: "Candidates with a score of 27 can rest assured when applying to the health and education sectors. Not only that, a score of 21-22 or slightly lower is also within the possibility of being admitted to these two sectors because many universities have set the same standard score as in the past 2-3 years."
A PhD student wondered about the 25 points in the academic transcript and 22 points in the high school graduation exam combination B00, which score is more advantageous to be admitted to the general medicine major. Dr. Vo Thanh Hai said: "If the minimum score for the exam score assessment method this year as stipulated by the Ministry of Education and Training is below 22 points, then the PhD student can completely register for general medicine and this score is relatively safe when considering admission to some schools, including Duy Tan University".
Similarly, with a score of 20, Master Nguyen Tran Ngoc Phuong said that it is also very safe to register for the medical testing technology major at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology.
A PhD with 22.5 points B00 also wondered whether to consider general medicine or biomedical engineering and medical physics at Nguyen Tat Thanh University. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoang Nga informed: "Biomedical engineering and medical physics are two majors that intersect engineering and medicine, fully equipped with medical knowledge combined with technology, using equipment for diagnostic imaging or treatment. However, these two majors are not in the health sector like traditional majors such as general medicine or traditional medicine, so they are not required to follow the threshold to ensure input quality. With a score of 22.5, I boldly registered for the first choice of the school's medical major and chose the second and third choices of biomedical engineering and medical physics."
Floor score is different from standard score
Many PhDs love general medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, medical testing technology... but still do not clearly understand the conditions to be able to register for this major. Dr. Vo Thanh Hai noted: "Along with the pedagogical major and recently the law and semiconductor microchip majors, the Ministry of Education and Training has set a threshold to ensure input quality for the health major. Accordingly, in methods that do not use high school graduation exam scores such as considering transcripts, considering competency assessment scores, V-SAT..., the Ministry of Education and Training stipulates that general medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, PhDs must have good 12th grade academic performance, or a graduation score of 8 or higher, the remaining majors in the health major must have good academic performance, or a graduation score of 6.5 or higher".
Dr. Vo Thanh Hai shared: "The floor score is only the minimum threshold for the university to accept applications for admission, not the admission score. The admission score is based on the number of quotas, the number of registered students and the average score of students. Most schools set the floor score at the lowest score, but when announcing the standard score, some majors have the same score as the floor score, but some majors can be much higher."
Master Ngoc Phuong also noted that the floor score is only a score for candidates to know whether they are eligible for admission or not. "Therefore, candidates should be careful, the floor score is sometimes a trap. Therefore, candidates must combine it with data such as score distribution, standard scores over many years... to decide to register for their wishes in the majors," said Master Phuong.

Regarding the health sector, Dr. Hai said that in recent years, Duy Tan University has often used the admission score based on the high school graduation exam score as the floor score of the Ministry of Education and Training. For example, in 2024, the admission score for the medical and dental majors will be 22.5 points, the pharmacy major will be 21 points and the nursing major will be 19 points.
At Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, the benchmark scores for the majors of pharmacy, nursing, and medical laboratory technology in 2024 are also equal to the floor score. Similarly, in 2024, the majors of dentistry, traditional medicine, pharmacy, nursing, rehabilitation technology, medical laboratory technology, and preventive medicine at Nguyen Tat Thanh University are also equal to the floor score. Only the medical major is 0.5 points higher than the floor score (23 points).
According to experts, with low exam scores like this year, especially the B00 combination score, it is predicted that the threshold for ensuring input quality that the Ministry of Education and Training stipulates for this industry will also decrease. When the floor score decreases, the benchmark scores of many universities with health majors will also decrease compared to 2024.
Note when registering the order of wishes
A reader wondered: If the benchmark scores between subject groups are the same, will it be disadvantageous for candidates taking subjects with difficult exam questions? Dr. Vo Thanh Hai commented: "A very big difference in this year's admission is that there is no more early admission (except for direct admission), all methods are considered in the same round. The Ministry of Education and Training stipulates that schools must convert equivalent scores between methods. At the same time, each major has many different combinations, so the Ministry also instructs schools to determine a base combination to convert the equivalent score scale between the combinations. The scores of the combinations may be different, but when converted to the equivalent score of the base combination, the difference will be minimized. Therefore, students can rest assured that this year there will be no unfairness between methods or combinations."
To increase the chance of admission, Master Nguyen Tran Ngoc Phuong advises candidates to make many wishes even if they have high scores. Experience in admission over the years shows that there are subjective candidates who only make one wish, as a result, that wish is not accepted, and candidates have no other chance in the official admission round while not all majors still have quotas in the supplementary admission round.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoang Nga noted that when registering for admission, candidates should prioritize their favorite majors and schools that are suitable for their abilities in their first choices; at the same time, monitor this year's floor score and compare the standard scores of previous years to set appropriate choices.
