On May 9, Van Lang University informed about the incident in which student Ngo Nguyen Giap (class 29, majoring in Chinese Language) behaved inappropriately towards a veteran at the parade to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification on the evening of April 29.
Although the incident occurred outside the scope of the school's training activities, Van Lang University still determined its responsibility to coordinate with families ineducating students.
Immediately after the incident, the school invited student Ngo Nguyen Giap and his family to work. After listening to the report, reviewing the student's learning process and consulting with the education management agency, the Student Reward and Discipline Council of Van Lang University met and agreed on a form of reprimand, which is educational in nature, creating conditions for the student to correct his mistakes.
Pursuant to Article 6, Circular 10/2016/TT-BGDDT dated April 5, 2016 and the school's internal violation handling regulations (Decision 559/QD-DHVL dated May 8, 2023), Van Lang University requires students to seriously learn from their mistakes and commit not to repeat the offense. At the same time, the Student Support Center, the Faculty of Foreign Languages and related units will continue to monitor and support the education of this student.
The school also calls on families to accompany in the process of education and behavior correction.
"The school affirms that the misconduct of an individual does not represent the Van Lang student community - dynamic, friendly, creative and aesthetic people. The school is proud of the positive contributions over the past 30 years from students and alumni in studying, researching and serving the community," the announcement emphasized.
Van Lang University said that with the humanistic spirit of the university education environment, the school is ready to accompany students to realize their mistakes, correct them and grow up. The school also officially closed all exchanges related to the incident.

Previously, social media circulated a clip recording two young men, including Ngo Nguyen Giap, behaving inappropriately towards veterans at the parade area celebrating the Liberation Day of the South (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025). The clip quickly caused outrage, with many calling for strict punishment, while also demanding that the students publicly apologize and the school take clear action.
