* According to Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thuong Lang, senior lecturer at the Institute of International Trade and Economics, National Economics University, the 2018 Law on Animal Husbandry, effective from 2020, strictly prohibits animal husbandry in unauthorized areas of cities, towns, townships, and residential areas. Localities have 5 years to prepare, with a deadline of January 1, 2025, to relocate unsuitable livestock facilities.
The above regulation will force some small-scale livestock farms to stop operating if they cannot relocate, narrowing the supply. However, this is necessary for the Vietnamese livestock industry to shift towards a livestock economy, which means increasing the role of medium and large-scale enterprises, meeting industry value chain standards, minimizing the possibility of spreading difficult-to-control diseases, and increasing management measures to move towards a modern, sustainable, high-value-added livestock industry.
