Dengue fever outbreak spreads in Hanoi.

On August 14th, the Hanoi Center for Disease Control (CDC) reported dengue fever cases across 29 districts and towns, an increase of 121 cases compared to the previous week. Thanh Tri district led with 160 cases, followed by Thach That, Hoang Mai, Bac Tu Liem, and Ha Dong. Compared to the same period last year, the total number of dengue fever cases has increased nearly fivefold.

59 new outbreaks occurred this week, bringing the total number of active outbreaks to 114. Some outbreaks have hundreds of patients, such as Phung Xa commune, Thach That district, with 324 patients; and Vinh Ninh village, Vinh Quynh commune, Thanh Tri district, with 188 patients.

In light of the increasing number of dengue fever cases in Hanoi, the Ministry of Health has requested the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology to provide technical and professional support for dengue prevention and control. Simultaneously, the Institute is coordinating with the city to assess the situation and the causes of the increase, aiming to prevent outbreaks from spreading and prolonging.

On August 10th, the Ministry of Health also requested localities to take measures to prevent and control dengue fever outbreaks, due to the arrival of the rainy season. Since the beginning of the year, the country has recorded 57,295 cases of dengue fever, including 13 deaths in 8 provinces and cities. The number of cases and deaths has decreased compared to the same period last year, but there has been an upward trend in recent weeks.

In August and September, Hanoi launched an environmental sanitation campaign, spraying chemicals to kill mosquitoes in high-risk areas and outbreak zones. Residents were advised to remove discarded items that hold stagnant water, where mosquito larvae and mosquitoes breed.
