Abandoned and forbidden destination in Vietnam praised by international press

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên21/05/2024

Australian newspaper Escape lists 7 abandoned places around the world that tourists are always eager to explore, including a destination in Vietnam that has been 'banned' for many years but people still flock to it.
Some of the places on this list are deadly, some will make you shiver, and others are simply inaccessible… However, they all have one thing in common: they are abandoned, among the world's most terrifying places that only daring travelers will be able to see with their own eyes.

Pripyat, Ukraine

You wouldn't pick the site of a nuclear disaster as a great place to explore, but that's not the case. Pripyat, a former city of 49,000 built to house workers at the nearby ill-fated Chernobyl nuclear power plant, continues to top "dark tourism " lists around the world, luring visitors with its deadly allure.

From photos of creepy Ferris wheels to tourists touring decaying hospitals in hazmat suits, it seems many people are willing to risk exposure to radiation to visit this infamous site in Ukraine, which became a ghost town after the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear power plant meltdown. Although radiation levels have dropped since the town was evacuated years ago, it is still dangerous to visit, especially if you go alone.

Pavlovsk Top Secret Submarine Base, Russia

This is the remains of a nuclear bunker believed to have been built to protect nuclear submarines of the Soviet Pacific Fleet. The base was built in the 1950s and 1960s and abandoned in the 1980s. It has two giant tunnels large enough to house submarines and several smaller tunnels for the personnel who worked there.

Titan I Missile 568-A Silo Larson, Washington, USA

In a remote part of Washington state, miles from the nearest town, there is an abandoned pit guarded by massive, multi-ton gates. It is the remains of a missile silo. Diver Jim Brockus says he has dived inside the now-flooded missile chute multiple times. In other areas of the complex, there is evidence that others have found and entered the abandoned Cold War relic, with graffiti scattered on walls and metal panels.

Silo - a titanium rocket - was built by the US during the height of the Cold War. According to an expert speaking on Abandoned Engineering, these rockets were state-of-the-art technology, the kind NASA is using, had a range of 6,000 miles and could reach speeds of 25 times the speed of sound. However, Silo only lasted three years, before being decommissioned in 1965 due to the advent of better technology that didn't require as much fuel...

The exact reason has never been revealed, but some locals believe it is haunted because it was built on temple land. There are all sorts of abandoned attractions inside including the decaying remains of an aquarium, water slides and an amphitheater that used to host a Sea World-style dolphin show.
