US President Donald Trump on July 6 declared a major disaster in Kerr County, Texas, which suffered heavy loss of life and property in the devastating flash floods on July 4.

The declaration provides a variety of federal assistance programs for individuals and public infrastructure, including funding for both emergency work and long-term recovery.

President Trump said Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was on the scene on July 5, along with Governor Greg Abbott, to assist Texans. The U.S. Coast Guard and other first responders in the state rescued more than 850 people.
