Google's first foldable phone officially "enters the battle"

As promised, Google's first foldable phone was officially revealed at the I/O 2023 event (USA), taking place on May 11 (Vietnam time).

The Pixel Fold is 5.8mm thin when opened and 12.1mm thin when folded, which is thinner than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 (6.3mm and 15.8mm respectively), or the Oppo Find N (7.4mm and 14.6mm respectively). The device is also IPX8 water-resistant, similar to Samsung's phones.

The outer screen is 5.8 inches in size, OLED panel, 1,080 x 2,092 pixel resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate, Gorilla Glass Victus, HDR brightness of 1,200 nits and maximum of 1,550 nits. The hinge is made of stainless steel, durable 200,000 times of opening and closing.

The inner display is the same 7.6-inch size, 2,208 x 1,840 pixel resolution as the Z Fold4, but is longer and has significantly thicker bezels to accommodate the camera. Other specs are similar with a 120Hz refresh rate, Ultra Thin Glass protection, 1,000 nit HDR brightness and a maximum of 1,450 nits.

The Pixel Fold is thinner than its main competitors on the market today.

In terms of configuration, Google uses the self-developed Tensor G2 processor chip for Pixel Fold, along with the Titan M2 security processor. The device has 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, 256 GB or 512 GB of storage.

The battery has a capacity of 4,821 mAh, significantly higher than the 4,400 mAh of the Z Fold4 and the 4,520 mAh of the Find N2. The device supports 30W USB-C charging. The fingerprint sensor is integrated into the power button.

On the back of the device, the camera cluster maintains the traditional style of the Pixel line. In which, the main camera has a resolution of 48 megapixels, 1/2 inch sensor, f/1.7 aperture, optical image stabilization (OIS). The remaining two cameras include a 10.8 megapixel ultra-wide angle with a 1/3 inch sensor, f/2.2 aperture and a telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom, 10.8 megapixel resolution, supporting Super Res Zoom up to 20x. The selfie camera on the outer screen is 9.5 megapixels and on the inner screen is 8 megapixels.

Along with the Pixel Fold, Google also showed off the low-cost Pixel 7a at $499. Meanwhile, the Pixel Tablet has an 11-inch screen with a 12-hour battery, priced at $499. Both products share the same Tensor G2 processor.

For its part, the Pixel Fold will go on sale in June (first in the US) for $1,799, the same price as the Galaxy Z Fold 4.
