Dr. Le Trung Chanh, Director of the Central Dental and Maxillofacial Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, believes that a nationwide oral health survey will have strategic significance, aiming to provide accurate scientific evidence on the current state of oral health among the Vietnamese population, contributing to the development of national policies and guidelines on prevention, care, and improvement of community oral health in the new era.

To ensure the scientific accuracy, standardization, and high reliability of research results, standardized training for doctors, medical staff, and personnel involved is crucial. Therefore, the National Dental and Maxillofacial Hospital of Ho Chi Minh City, in collaboration with experts from the University of Queensland, organized a standardized examination training program to support the 4th National Oral Health Survey.

According to Dr. Le Trung Chanh, this oral health survey program adheres to world standards and involves two leading dental hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, aiming to develop a strategy for preventing and caring for oral health among children, students, and the general public.

Responding to a reporter from Thanh Nien newspaper, Professor Do Giang Loc (University of Queensland) said that initially, experts from the university will train doctors and medical staff from the two hospitals on epidemiological investigation methods. The program is expected to begin implementation in provinces and cities in September 2025; the investigation is expected to last at least one year.

The school dental program, aimed at preventing tooth decay in students using a school-health station model (Project 5628), approved by the Ministry of Health, has been implemented for some time.

This program aims to improve the capacity for dental and maxillofacial examination and treatment and oral disease prevention in the community, from 2021 to 2030. The National Dental and Maxillofacial Hospital of Ho Chi Minh City is assigned to implement the project in the southern region.
