Ice covered the wooden floors and pillars of the tourist area on the mountain top. A staff member working there said the temperature on the top of Fansipan was about minus 2 degrees Celsius, the humidity was nearly 80%, and it was not raining. Because it was dark, the extent of the frost was not yet determined.
Sa Pa, with an altitude of 1,600 m above sea level, the lowest temperature measured by the meteorological agency this morning was nearly 6 degrees Celsius. According to the rule, for every 100 m increase, the temperature drops by 0.6 degrees Celsius.

This is the second time frost has appeared this winter. Three days ago, thick frost appeared on Lan Pan Tan mountain peak, Mu Cang Chai district, Yen Bai province and the range from 2,300 m up to Fansipan peak.
Weather experts explain that ice appeared on Fansipan peak because the sky was clear and the temperature was low. Water vapor and dew on the surface will form ice when exposed to sub-zero temperatures.
From now until tomorrow morning, other high mountain peaks such as Mau Son (Lang Son) and Dong Pagoda (Quang Ninh) are likely to have ice.
