Shaping Vietnamese interior design identity in the era of integration.

On June 6th, in Hanoi, the seminar "Vietnamese Interior Design Trends 2026-2030" took place with the participation of experts, architects, and designers from Vietnam and abroad. The event aimed to facilitate dialogue, share visions, and express aspirations for building a distinct Vietnamese interior design identity in the context of global integration.

The overarching theme of the seminar was the question: "How can Vietnamese interior design define its own unique identity in the era of integration?" Many key trends were analyzed, including: personalization of living spaces, green architecture, sustainable products, and honoring heritage and traditional art. According to the speakers, modern interior design is no longer just decoration, but a space that connects people, the environment, and culture.

The seminar also marked the launch of the publication "Trend 26+," which shapes Vietnamese architectural trends.

Architect Le Truong, President of the Vietnam Interior Design Association, believes this is a "golden opportunity" for Vietnamese interior design to transform, thanks to the dynamism of the younger generation of designers, the rise of domestic brands, and the increasing demand for distinctive experiences. However, he also frankly stated that the industry still lacks a connected ecosystem, a design language, and mechanisms to support the development of international brands.

Dr. Phan Dang Son, President of the Vietnam Association of Architects, emphasized the role of theory, critical analysis, and training. He warned of the risk of losing identity if global trends are adopted without selectivity.

From an international perspective, Gemma Riberti – Director of Interior Design at the UK-based trend forecasting company WGSN – argues that design not only needs to adapt but also listen, reflecting humanity and culture. According to her, an ideal space should possess three elements: beauty, sustainability, and cultural depth.

Speakers also agreed that the understanding of cultural identity in design in Vietnam is inconsistent; and training and theoretical work in the interior design and architecture industry are inadequate. In this context, the launch of Trend 26+ – a specialized publication on interior design and architecture trends, professionally sponsored by the Vietnam Association of Architects – is expected to mark a shift from passive reception to proactive creation of Vietnamese interior design trends.
