Jota was determined to be speeding at the time of the accident.

According to ESPN , the investigation into the cause of the accident is still ongoing. However, the Spanish Civil Guard initially said that the Lamborghini driven by Jota had a flat tire, lost control and went off the road while the car was going faster than the prescribed speed.

Previously, authorities had not yet determined who was driving the car. However, police have now confirmed that it was most likely Jota who was behind the wheel.

The accident happened early in the morning, on a deserted highway, the car caught fire fiercely, leaving both brothers unable to escape. Jota was on his way to Santander (Spain) to catch a ferry to England, instead of flying, because he had just undergone lung surgery and was advised to limit flying.

Jota and Silva’s funeral was a tearful affair at the Igreja Matriz de Gondomar church on Saturday, presided over by Bishop D. Manuel Linda. Jota’s wife, Rute Cardoso, clutched a white rose as she bid farewell to her husband. She and Jota have three young children, but none of them attended.

The football world is still in shock after the car accident that took Jota and his brother Silva away forever. This great loss has left many of Jota's teammates, friends and relatives with lingering pain.
