Artist Bui Cong Danh said that his father, artist Cong Tai (real name Bui Cong Tai - born in 1954), passed away at 6:45 p.m. on July 16 at his home after a long battle with terminal liver cancer. He was 72 years old.

The news of his passing was shared with emotion and sorrow. According to Bui Cong Danh, his father was diagnosed with liver cancer in November 2024.

Despite the dedicated treatment of specialists, his condition became more and more serious and he could not overcome it.

Meritorious Artist Le Thien - former Deputy Director of Tran Huu Trang Theater, said that the cai luong stage has just lost a familiar face and a warm voice that has been deeply imprinted in the memories of many generations of audiences.

Artist Cong Tai's funeral was held at his private home: 198B/39 Duong Ba Trac, Rach Ong Ward, District 8, Ho Chi Minh City, where his family has been attached for many years.

The funeral will take place at 2:00 p.m. on July 19, 2025, after which the body will be cremated at Da Phuoc Cemetery.

A life devoted to the reformed theater

Born and raised in the golden age of Southern reformed opera, artist Cong Tai is a name that has been associated for many years with Tran Huu Trang Theater, where he affirmed his position with the roles of fathers and uncles - gentle, tolerant, and full of confidences.

His slim figure, deep voice, sad eyes and natural demeanor have left an indelible mark in the hearts of his fans.

He does not play the main role, does not make a fuss in the media, but is the one who supports the play with a rare calmness - like a quiet ground that helps other characters shine steadily.

Above all, he is a father in both art and life - which is most clearly shown through the journey of following and silently guiding his son, Bui Cong Danh, to the acting profession.

A silent figure behind the lights

In 2021, in the reality TV show "Sao noi ngoi", artist Cong Tai first appeared on the television stage as a father who always mentally supported his son to follow in his footsteps.

Those simple yet emotional moments touched the hearts of the audience. Without many words, just his eyes were enough to confirm: fatherly love in Vietnamese theater is not just a play, but a lifeline that smolders and endures over time.

The pain of losing a father - as Bui Cong Danh himself choked up and shared - "is the greatest pain in life".

He just received a silver medal for his role as Tuan - the villain in the play "Another War" (author Tong Phuong Linh, director Meritorious Artist Le Nguyen Dat, art advisor: People's Artist Hong Van) at the 5th National Professional Art Theater Festival on "The Image of the People's Police Soldier" in 2025 in Hanoi .

"I had time to show my father about my achievements after my artistic career. Back then, when I first started singing, I chose modern music and joined a singing group called "The Future". My father still hoped that I would become an actor in the future.

And I have fulfilled my father's aspiration, striving every day to be worthy of being his successor" - Artist Bui Cong Danh confided.

Over the past day, his family has received many condolences and farewell wreaths from colleagues at Hong Van Theater, Tran Huu Trang Theater, and audiences who loved him through each profound role on the Cai Luong stage.

Father's voice still echoes

Although he has passed away, for those who love the reformed theater, the deep, emotional voice of artist Cong Tai still echoes in old cassette tapes, in old television plays, and in the memories of those who were moved when watching him perform in plays such as: "The Island of the Goddess Venus", "Love and Response", "Birds of Vietnam on the Southern Branch", "Soul-Capturing Tower"...

His career may not be flashy, but he is a quiet brick in the foundation of the reformed theater. He is a typical representative of the class of artists who "play supporting roles but not supporting roles", living devotedly to their profession, not seeking the limelight but leaving behind lasting values.

Farewell to artist Cong Tai - the artist of gentle roles, a devoted father both in life and on stage.

His passing is a great loss to the Cai Luong stage, to those who cherish the true and lasting values of traditional stage. Condolences to artist Bui Cong Danh.

"I always remember the lessons my father taught me to strive to become an artist loved by the public and achieve success on the path I have chosen." - Artist Bui Cong Danh said.
