Korean enterprises expand investment scale in Vietnam

On the afternoon of August 29, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son received Korean Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises and Startups Oh Young Ju on the occasion of her working visit to Vietnam.

At the reception, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son welcomed Minister Oh Young Ju's visit to Vietnam and believed that the visit would contribute to promoting the implementation of cooperation agreements between the two countries' senior leaders.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed his delight that the Vietnam-Korea relationship is at its best stage of development, political trust is constantly being strengthened, cooperation in all fields is developing remarkably, especially economic cooperation has become a bright spot in the relationship between the two countries.

Assessing the great potential for cooperation between the two countries, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son suggested that both sides continue to encourage Korean enterprises to expand their investment scale in Vietnam, especially in new fields such as artificial intelligence, green economy, digital economy, digital transformation, etc.; and promote cooperation between small and medium-sized enterprises and startups of the two countries.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son proposed that Korea continue to support Vietnam in training high-quality human resources in areas such as semiconductor manufacturing and high technology that Vietnam is in need of developing in the coming time; at the same time, he suggested that the two sides strengthen cooperation in the fields of training, capacity building, knowledge sharing, innovation, etc., and carry out more practical cooperation activities to connect the innovation and startup ecosystem between the two countries.

For his part, Minister Oh Young Ju expressed his hope that businesses of the two countries, especially small and medium-sized enterprises and startups, will promote cooperation to develop new technology fields, such as artificial intelligence (AI), digital technology, and innovation, thereby contributing to the overall development of the Korea-Vietnam relationship.

"The Korean Ministry of SMEs and Startups will continue to share experiences in building a startup ecosystem as well as introduce cooperation support policies so that SMEs from the two countries can expand cooperation and investment," Minister Oh Young Ju affirmed.

Previously, also within the framework of the visit, Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu had a working session with Minister Oh Young Ju and representatives of a number of businesses from the two countries in the fields of software production, IT, AI technology, educational technology, healthcare, etc.

At the meeting, Permanent Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Vu highly appreciated the business activities and contributions of Korean FDI enterprises to the socio-economic development of Vietnam, hoping that Korean enterprises will continue to expand investment cooperation in Vietnam. At the same time, support Vietnamese enterprises to participate in the value chain as well as carry out business investment activities with the spirit of efficiency, sustainability, high social responsibility, environmental protection, and actively contribute to the socio-economic development of Vietnam.

Believing that the potential for cooperation between the two countries is still very large, especially in the field of economic cooperation, Minister Oh Young Ju thanked the Vietnamese Government for always accompanying, supporting and creating favorable conditions for foreign investors in general and Korean investors in particular to invest and do business conveniently, effectively and sustainably in Vietnam.

During the meeting, representatives of a number of businesses from both countries also discussed and proposed areas of cooperation they would like to promote in the coming time.
